Hi everyone,

My brake light isn't lighting up when I use the front brake, only the back one.

Someone told me that it'll be the front brake switch which is most likely at fault. What is it, where is it, and what should I do to it?

I there anything else that could be causing these symptoms?

PS: It's a 2004 Hyosung Comet.

Cheers!

Thanks Frasier.

I've tried to register at korider but no luck so far. The registration activation emails don't seem to be arriving (tried two email addresses).

Don't know that specific bike but it will be the front brake switch that is knackered which is either a microswitch that works as you pull the front brake lever or a pressure switch that operates on brake fluid pressure as you operate the brake.

Well, as I pull the front brake slightly I can hear the clicking of a switch. I'll have a dig around tomorow and see what I can see.

That sounds like the microswitch version then. I've just changed the one on my Wing, cost me £17. I expect yours will be a lot cheaper Laughing

Got the same problem on my super dream, good news being, becuase it's old, it dosn't legally have to have one on the front brake.

Mines under the r/h switch gear, its a little barrel shaped thing that works through the hydrolics pressure. Bought one from david silvers for £7, but they sent me the wrong one (a newer micro switch type one) so still waiting to fix it.

I got the switch off, lathered everything in WD40 and cleaned the connectors down.

All is now working Thumbs Up

Cheers for that link Frasier. I joined up and they were really helpful. Got myself some nice service manuals now.

it sounds like the front brake light switch is either coroded or broken internally..follow the front brake lever towards the pivot edge and youll 9/10 times find it as a small micro switch held in with a tiny screw, pull the two wires off the switch and connect the two wires together with a split pin or a small length of electrical wire,if the light works, then that will point towards the switch.Try also spraying WD40 or a spray penetrating oil into the switch and allow to soak in,keep applying the switch as they suffer with water ingress and corode.I hope this is of use.
ps a replacement switch is about a fiver and 30 seconds to fit.
