Bike cleaning etc

When you have been out in the rain and come back into the dry garage, should you dry the bike? My dad has suggested wiping it down with WD40 which seems quite logical. Are there any other methods of preventing rust/keeping paint and chrome in top nick?

I wouldn't rub my paint work in WD40!!

A nice bit of Autoglym once a week should solve the problem.

Well not necessarily after rain, but if it's damp and cruddy out I will rinse it when I get back. I then chamois the damp bits and spray the exposed metal with GT85. If it's been particularly salty or shitty out I will give the calipers a shot of brake cleaner to prevent them locking overnight. I think you can be as thorough or as lax as you like after all it's your beast and will respond accordingly. Especially if it's a chinese one...

I had done absolutly no cleaning since the day after I got the bike, done quite a lot of miles in the wet and cold, left it out overnight in the wet, snow and stuff.

Pressure washed the crap off yesterday, its shiny today.
Easy.

got another bike clean related question.... any one know the best way to clean up furry metal and pitting on chrome??

Another one to look for is ACF-50. The difference with this being that you spray it on once and thats it. It won't come off when it rains unlike the 365 stuff which you have to re-apply every time you've been out in the wet.

Having said that, I think it may come off a bit if you clean your bike with a pressure washer or use detergent so I hear that most people use this stuff at the beginning of winter then leave their bike alone until spring and then give it a good wash. In theory the bike should stay protected by the ACF-50.

I use a big one at work that knocks you back if your not ready, takes a minute, ride it 6 miles home on the motorway and lube my chain up.

Give it a rinse and scrub twice a week, wheels once a fortnight and fs365 whenever its gotten wet. So far so good esp considering its only under a shitty cover.
