hi i am having some seroius trouble with my 2001 sv650s this morning i came to the bike and it wouldnt start it just kept clicking very fastley when i pusehed the start button i have just had it in for a 20k mile service had the rollers done and a new battery fitted it was doing this before i had the service done but its still doing it could it be the battery at fault here as the bike was running sound till this morning when i tried to start it. the battery i got was a nano gel filled one. could it just be a faulty new battery or could it be something more.im really stuck now for transport so i need to get the problem sorted quite quickly can aany one shed any light on the matter if at all possible please. i leave the bike outside over night would that stop it working as i have stored the rest of my bikes there before in the past and had no trouble from them.

thanks

Sounds like the battery is flat they usually click when insufficient current to spin the starter. Get a trickle charger on it for a couple of hours and it should start straight up

As that is a new battery its fair to assume that the charging system needs testing Thumbs Up

learn to bump start it, SVs are tricky in that you need to hold on the clutch while starting it though.

Usual thing , multimeter across the terminals should be a bit above 12volts,

bad recs ruin batteries ,

You may possibly have a duff battery - even if it is new. Why was the other battery replaced?

If the mechanic replced it, maybe you can have a word and try another battery in the bike for a few weeks and see if you get the same problems or not.

i replaced the old battery as it was on its last legs and as old as the bike 5-6 years thats why i think the new one is duff as well it has the same symtoms i.e draining all the power out of it when its cold over night.

Are you sure you don't have a short circuit or something drawing power out of your battery?

WHILE THE BIKE IS TURNED OFF, connect an ammeter in between the battery positive lead and the terminal. (Make sure you connect it in series with the battery, not parallel, or there will be smoke and flames.) See what reading you get.

i got the mechanic to have a look at my wiring and he says he fixed a fault on the starter motor wiring what i dont know. but its wierd i picked the bike up on the a wednesday the bike worked fine and started fine but the next sunday night the battery must have drained as i tried it monday morning it was dead as a fart.

I got one for £20 on ebay - I avoid 'main dealers' wherever possible.
