Well i've been avidly watching the WRC every sunday at 6 PM on Dave and i'm quite keen to go and watch the Welsh part of the Rally live but i was just wondering if anyone could shed light on costs.

Obviously there's getting there and everything but are they are any good places close by to stay? And watching the Shakedowns and Rallys themselves, do you have to pay at all or can you just sorta hang about on the sidelines?

Cheers.

Everyone I know camps, personally I'd rather watch it on TV instead of standing there freezing watching 1 car flash by you in a second every 20 minutes!

They've made it quite expensive now, due to 'safety concerns' they do their very best to stop you watching anywhere apart from designated spectator areas, that cost about £15 a ticket for each stage iirc. Parking is heavily restricted, so unless you fancy yourself doing a 10 mile hike it's very hard to watch for free.

I stayed in Cardiff, either on uni mates floors or the YHA. Decent nightlife there too.

Me and my dad went and did the WRC track in north wales when we got his 2nd to last car, didn't know at the time why it was 'like it was'. He almost mashed the front end up a few times.

Other than that I can't advise abut it, Just a shame they don't do it at Dolby forest this year/no more.

Use to go every year as its quite close to where i live, but every year its got more and more expensive.

I use to be able to go to an early stage in the morning and see say the first 15 cars come through and then go to the services down swansea and then back to a later stage... Lot of miles but well worth it.
One thing is that when the rally is on,speed camera vans WILL be out in force: 5 years ago i was racing between stages and doing 120 in my mx5 down the glyn neath bank, slowed down for a bend and they got me at 90mph.... It was the same year when they had several rally drivers and over 100 people...

Rally passes have gone up in price, last time i looked it was about £90 for a three day pass, which included brochure, entry to service, entry to a stage a day (might be wrong). This pass didnt include the super special stage at cardiff.
They might limit what stage you go to in a day... check it out on line first.
They do day passes aswell.

Also on the thursday (Fri,sat and sun race days) down cardiff they use to have a "fun day" where you can get the drivers autographs,etc... (Got a 2001 programme signed by most of the top drivers at the time...burns,collin,tommi (da best !) toshi, marcus and more ) Well worth popping down to cardiff on that day !

Bring loads of money to the service point as the stuff you can buy is expensive..... jackets, hats etc...

Some people find it cheaper to book a cheap flight and watch they rallying in an other country ! Much warmer and cheaper !!
