completely hypothetical of course
but i you ever did decide to do a runner im guessing the best place to go is somewhere with speed humps, narrow roads and into traffic if its in daylight. That and doing 100+ mph everywhere.
Even then i dont think that would work, police have more than 1 car and have helicopters if you cant get away quick enough.
Anyone ever actually done a runner and got away? ____________________ follow my racing season

I would never do a runner from the police of course!!
But I always think the longer the chase goes on the more difficult it'd be to get away. So IF I was running from them, I'd try to get out of sight round a corner and very quickly park in a driveway and be hiding - just so the vehicle I was in would look like it was just parked and owned there...
Also, I'd only ever use roads I knew. The number of times you hear of 'runners' being caught out by dead ends, one way streets etc. ____________________ Previous: Aprilia Habana Retro 50cc (beauty), Yamaha SR125 (fell apart), Honda XR125 (nippy little commuter), Honda SLR650 (Geewhizz), Yamaha Diversion 900S (Smoooooth) written off courtesy of a stupid escaped horse.

Try looking on youtube, theres a video of someone on a R1 being chased by police in the us on a highway, the police cars are nowhere to be seen, but the helicopter keeps up and films the crash into the back of a car he doesnt slow down quick enough for |

Have done a few times.
In the UK I used to find the pedestrian paths in housing estates with the bollards and race down them.
Had one that started at the industrial estate and would spit you out near the train station so you rag it over the bridge and down into the train station and then down another pedestrian bit thats bollarded off which leads to another small industrial estate then you can either go out towards Bodicote via Cherwell Heights. or head back towards town and go to Warwick/Southam/Wroxton/Stratford. All this while they are still in Grimsbury area.
I know all the ways around Banbury.
If it was some where I didn't know I would use my speed to my advantage then head down some country roads.
If the helicopters out not sure dump the bike and find a populated area. ____________________ ◙◙► K6 GSXR 600 ◄◙◙◙◙► K5 GSXR 1000 ◄◙◙◙◙► K5 GSXR 600 ◄◙◙◙◙► 96 RF600r ◄◙◙

The trick seems to be making a decision at the start, as early as possible. Easiest seems to be on a motorway or similar, where lane splitting is possible. Making up extra ground at the start, then aiming for the traffic jams is what I'd advise.
Never heard of anyone outrunning a helicopter though.
Mind you, what do I know? I've never done it, of course.

The trick is local knowledge, and desperation. Alleyways and footpaths are your friend. I'll say no more ____________________ TL1000s, KDX200 |

Various web sources state police helicopters have a top end of 143mph ,
though this is if conditions are good and it isn't windy , and UK cops don't use coaxial unaffected as much by wind type helicopters ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Hmm, i would find the nearest underground station or british rail station and lob the bike in the train and wait til the next station (if the police hadn't figured out you been on one - or on the croydon tramlink , get off and re-rag.
If you're planning to run from the police - it's always a good idea to have velcroed plates - or in your case a stupidly small one . I'd stay away from motorways since its too easy for the squad car to radio ahead.
I would go through a market or something of that sort, along canal paths, tunnels and stuff like that.
Local knowledge is a MUST, knowing all the local alleyways, stash-spots where you can hide your bike, or abandoned car parks/hospitals etc to lay low whilst the heat is about.
Or, i would go into somebody's garage or driveway and hide in a wheelie bin. The moment police come to open the bin, out i come and scare them with my arms flailing and roaring at them and making loud silly noises - a bonus would be to headbutt their chin with your lid and then remount their bike and head off - but that will result in assault! ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1

You know this was always my plan, for a erm get rich quick scheme while in an *isolated part of the country* ,
That area had no armed response team for 50 miles, and no helicopter for 90 miles other than Sea rescue.
You'd load it onto a bike, ride east at 110mph till you got to this tiny picnic area , where you could rip the paniers off bury them in pre dug holes, change your gear/helmet/boots/number plate. Put a baglux on to cover the tank change the plates,
ride back into town , and pretend to be shocked.
You would need to visit the get rich quick building before hand to give your DNA an alibi. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Yea I did it once on my RVF, biggest adrenaline rush EVER. Then i was shitting my pants for months after as i forgot there are surveillance cameras in the town centre The copper wasn't that clever though obviously I went straight to my friends house, changed helmet and jacket and put my lights on.... basically trying to look as different as possible!

I have a Friend who also happens to ride a hornet
He has been in a few chases from Traffic plod cars and has found some things to work well.
In one case he had only had the bike a week or so, and it wasent yet in his name. He had been riding fast on a big dual carriage way, had exited and was waiting at the traffic lights, in his mirror he saw flashing blue lights, being as late as it was and in light of his flagrant speeding, fight or flight kicked in and he nailed it.
Now this mate of mine only happened to be a couple of miles from home so was on home turf if you will, he managed to keep his distance from the pursuing traffic police volvo, and rapidly, as fast as he has ever been headed towards his new house (where the bike was not registered to), got enough of a lead over the car, that once on his road he killed his lights and nipped quickly down a side alley and immediately killed the engine, to which the police car went screaming off down the road they assumed he had continued down. That was one very naughty but exhilirating dodge...
I would say if you are on the motorway or far from home and you dont know the area there isnt much point in running, at full pursuit speed how much petrol you gonna have? 80/100 miles if your tank was full when you started?, likely you had like half a tank, those volvo's have Mahoosive tank ranges, and backup is but a radio call away. Also in a straight line those Volvo's could pace most bikes on top speed? Its your acceleration that will let you escape, you want maybe A roads with roundabouts you can straightline
In short if you are going to run, decide early and have a plan of where you are going and what your gonna do when you get there. And if you were low on petrol unless you really have something to hide its prolly best to just pull over... |

Being a cop, if people didn't run - there wouldn't be any point having pursuit trained officers.
Keep up the good work. |
