The Daily Mail reports that Brown is proposing 'citizenship classes' to UK school pupils, in which they'll be encouraged to formally swear allegiance to the queen.

Are we on the same fvcking planet as these turds?

If my daughter's school started doing that, I'd take her out.

EDIT: I mean take my daughter out of the school, not take out the Queen! Laughing

Crazy I know. Obviously this is about making people feel British again, when in actual fact we are all about to become primarily citizens of the new nation called the European Union. That name is being kept so as not to arouse suspicion. Your British citizenship will be on a secondary basis for a while.

PS. How long before "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" disappears from the from of our passports?

Citizenship is nothing new, I had it for like 4 years in secondary school. Essentially they tried to teach us moral values like we were 5, after about 3 weeks of it we stopped paying attention and took the piss the whole lesson.

But there wasn't any queen stuff in it.

You should never have put her in. State education is nothing more than pure indoctrination and a preparation for a life of industrial slavery.

Such is capitalism, everybody just lives in gilded cages instead of iron ones.

I got told I should love the Queen at school, nothing wrong with it.

Teacher said the queen is the only British thing left in London, and as long as she stays alive this country will keep some heritage and some respect.

/shrugs/ Seemed to make a little sense to me.

I'm not too clued up on most of the things that go on here in current affairs though.

nope we actually disagree quite alot , I'm a scortched earth capitalist who thinks harsh capitalism , perhaps even a corporate state is a good idea , while hetz thinks people should be limited to 100K in money max.

Erm the Royal family are mostly German

Excerpt:
Queen Victoria to Prince Albert in 1840. He was the son of the Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha in Germany and his name became that used by the British royal family.

A bit of a mouthful, Saxe-Coburg-Gotha turned out not to be Albert's real surname, which was Wettin, the name of another aristocratic German dynasty.

It was only in 1917 that George V, worried by the anti-German feeling caused by the first world war, ordered the royal family to scrap Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and Wettin for Windsor.

Prince Phillip is born from the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg a German , Denmark house.

So your teacher lied to you,

The Queen is about as British as a large, saurkraut eating sausage in lederhosen, goose-stepping in the direction of Poland in time to oompa-oompah music.

Her families real surname is Sax-Coberg-Gotha. They changed it to Windsor during the first world war so it sounded more British.

I'm quite a fan of HM, but I don't think kids should be swearing allegiance.

It's one thing if they join the scouts or the Army/RAF (Navy doesn't have to - we're far too classy) but enforced loyalty before they can even fully understand or influence the system is hardly cricket.

Just another eye-catching initiative to try and grab back some ground from the Tories, and hide the fact that NL are actually anti-British.

Dunno depends where you go really, I was state schooled and I reckon I came out all right.

Then saying that there are some schools from my area that I'm glad I wasn't a part of cause I would have got nothing from them..

Interesting how the Beeb is reporting this:

Quote:

Pupils 'to take allegiance oath'

I'm not quite sure how they can quote something that hasn't actually be said/agreed/done.

The report suggests that allegiance oaths be introduced - it is simply a concept paper, yet anyone scanning the BBC headlines could be forgiven for thinking that NL Drillmasters will be in schools next week.....

Even if you click onto the story and read the actual facts of the matter - your opinion has probably already been coloured by your initial reaction to the headline.

Still, at least I'm not paying for such shoddy journalism.....oh, wait........

From the very top line of that same report ...

"School-leavers should be encouraged to swear an oath of allegiance "

... a slight difference between small schoolchildren and school leavers, who like to think that they are all grown up by the time they leave, and know what they are doing more than small children do.

I think the Daily Mail is only getting hysterical about it because it means more immigrants would probably be able to take the oath, as - having had their children put through the British school and benefits system - their sense of allegiance to the country would be higher than the disenfranchised indigenous British youth leaving school at the same time.

I suppose the main question is what are the consequences of NOT taking such an oath.

You get put on the terrorist list.

I forget but in the US the pledge of alligence was altered to include 'god' to catch communists. Pretty much how medieval societies used to have pork dinners to root out the Jews.

I've had thoughts about this, in that in the 90s I put my name on petitions (foolishly my real name) against various things such as top up fees around 1999 and fees around 1998ish.

I've found that even though I am super qualified and now heavily experienced I can't get any jobs in government or council offices that are cush , loads of hols , pay at least 50% more than me and you can sit on your rear end all day.

Last council job I applied for was this 32K job, I was most qualified lived local and have lots of experience for it, needless to say I didn't get the job.

Right, so they want to make us feel more British by importing a load of psuedo-patriotic crap from America.

That's not a conspiracy. That's just councils. the job was filled via the old boys network before it was ever advertised. it has ever been thus with councils.

It's just that these days they are required to advertise the job and interview at least so many people (of a carefully selected spectrum of sexes, colours and disabilities) before they give it to their mates son.

Very true indeed. My other half worked in recruitment for the council. She spent years trying to get a job in the council and once she was in she found out why it had taken so long. There are endless procedures in place to see that the most suitable person gets the job, yet half the time its someones mates son/daughter end up with the job. To make matters worse, if the job is advertised internally then god knows how many manhours are lost with interviews and selections when the outcome has already been decided over a round of golf.

Benefit scroungers ; Booooo
Royal Family ; All Hail

On a trip to Thailand last year we went to watch a movie, i was amazed to learn that at the start of every single film shown in the country is a short film about how much the king rocks. You also have to stand up an put your hand on your heart while your watching it. Didn't want to find out what happens if you don't, i was strongly advised to get my arse up an hail to the chief.

Glad i have the right to say the queen can lick my balls without being thrown in the slammer for 10 years.
