IMO sounds easier to play around with the engine bits, pistons, carb jetting, exhaust, etc. rather than an engine swap. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

Of course it's do-able go for it.
CR500 would be the best bet for performance. If you want to retain a charging system etc maybe a CRM250 engine would be the one to go for although you wouldnt be gaining much performance wise. ____________________ If you dont like the way that I ride.......Stop trying to keep up!!! |

How long do you want it to last between services?
Some of the MX 4 stroke single 400cc motors could be pretty good.

Iwouldn't fit a 2T crosser engine they just aren't suited to road-riding. Sure it would be a mental-case but at the expense of an extreme maintenance schedule. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

I would consider some of the enduro 2strokes rather than mx - these often come with all the charging stuff etc for a start and are a bit more reasonable on the road.
KTM EXC range (don't do it anymore, but there was a 380cc 2 stroke if I remember) Gas Gas EC range. KTM did an 'EXG' 250 which was autolube.
On the 4 stroke side, Husaberg 650 or similar to keep the weight down (probably less than your 350); can get a 750cc kit for the Hussy' that actually makes it more reliable!
Or go for a Maico 685cc 2 stroke if you could actually find one .
Are you sure the Goose frame can take it; maybe you should look at a new frame at the same time . |

the cr5 motor makes for an appauling road bike, too vibey, doesn't like constant throttle, hard to start, etc, etc.
there's a few cr5 conversions out there(i thought about it for my mito),most of them are unfinished projects,or they never get taken out and ridden, one guy converted an rgv to cr power, spent thousands, with hundred of hours of work, then after a week of trying to ride it he said it was just too viby to ride with any enjoyment and converted it back to the rgv engine.
unfortunatly the lad who owned the derbi 50/cr500 sm conversion was killed by it a few months later .
my vote would be for maybe a cr250 motor(far more managable)if it has to be an mx engine, crm 250 nice but not that much more powerful.tuned tzr/tdr 250 or 350 ypvs would be my choice |

A 350 single 4T came out so surely a 400cc 4T shouldn't be too much of a struggle? I was joking about the SXV. ____________________ My Flickr |
