This post is longer than it needs to be and quite dull... /disclaimer

Right so thought i would go out earlier and enjoy the heat, so i slung on my body armor and whacked a hoodie over the top, had a nice lunchtime hoon all over london, I get back onto my "patch", Long straight road, red lights at the end, no cars anywhere near me, I stretch out, no hands, pretend im an aeroplane at about 50 ish... I decide the petrol station i was heading to was too expensive at 1.12 a litre so i u-turn ahead and head back home
/snip
Marked police car pulls out of god knows where turns on sirens, i pull over hoping they go past, nope, so im 100% legal (bar no tax disc on me or the bike, it got nicked), i pull over, They stay in the car, assuming im gonna do a runner, shout through the closed windows to get off the bike...

Alright im thinking no need for all the shouting i pulled over dident i...
So as i get off the bike an unmarked omega or something comes screaming up, does a handbrake stop just infront of my bike and two unmarked officers come over and start giving it large.

One of the first things they said to me was "How many points you got?" to which i replied "3", "Well your BANNED NOW, how about that!! for Dangerous Driving"I replied nice and calmly "Ok then..."

So i have 3 uniformed officers standing all around me trying to look imposing (sorry WPC's you just dont have that looming effect of a veteran traffic cop) and the two plain clothes guys, one giving me the 3rd degree, the other going over the bike.

As i was out for a hoon i dident have my wallet/licence on me, just a debit and credit card, gave them that as ID, So while one of them is rubbing the dirt off my molten hot engine to find the VIN numbers the other is trying his best to get me to incriminate myself. At this point even after the whole "your banned" thing i knew they had no video and it was their word against mine, So when he asked why i was pulling stunts (in his words) i just looking blankly and said "I dunno" thats wound him up a little bit, so hes started on the "Do you know what the speed limit is on this road", "40mph?", "Thats right so would you care to explain why you were doing almost twice the prescribed limit" to which i replied "I belive i have the right to not self-incriminate", from that moment on i think we both knew he couldent do much.

Cue one of the Uniformed PC's saying "You are an idiot arent you" to which i calmly replied "I would seem so", then he noticed the missing tax disc, i just said it got nicked the other day and i would get onto that.

By this point the checks had come back and confirmed it was my, legal bike etc etc. He gave me the its us who scrape you off the road speech and then they buggered off.

I guess the point of the post apart from a little vent was i wonder how many people they catch out when they initially come on strong and threaten bans, I would assume most people dont know its really only traffic that have cameras, Is that something they teach coppers to try and get suspects to Self incriminate or was he just trying it on?. Overall i was highly impressed with how calm i remained, but i would hazard a guess and say its a bit like fishing and they catch a few, luckily i was the one that got away Thumbs Up

Edit:

And if i had of said yes i was doing 60mph, could they get a conviction on the basis of me saying that infront of 5 officers?

I think it's more a case of the coppers personality or hatred of motorcyclists etc.

I've been pulled many times in cars or on bikes. Some types are (Cliche I Know) Little Hitlers, and try and throw the book at you, others are a bit more relaxed. I think you just ended up with a Jobsworth on this occasion. I'm sure you been pulled before and come away thinking "God, if only he saw what I was doing 2 mins before he pulled me".

I got pulled on Sunday, by a cop with a radar gun 50 yards after coming out of a 60 into a 30. He'd clocked me at 52Mph, but basically said mind how you go (Till he saw the tiny plate), but he pleasant enough, gave me a bit of a lecture, but he could of been MUCH worse, and I think had I of been pulled by the goon who pulled you I'd of probably been facing a ban.

Just luck of the draw as to whether ya get a total Jobsworth or not I suppose. Does sound a little over the top for so many cops being there, ya weren't near BrunstromLand were ya? Laughing

If you say 50mph, it was 50mph.

Good job on staying calm, they also don't like smiling. Very Happy

Nope no where near the land of Cuntstrom, West London,

Funny thing is minutes before i had come off the A40 doing triple figure speeds, and they have seen me basically strecthing out and entering a nice calm pootle home phase after a pretty fast ride.

I guess it links in with that recent thread of biting your tounge when dealing with jobsworth coppers, It was a very interesting situation though, all though there were 5 of them i felt like strangely i had all the power in the exchange. Weird one it was...

Please tell me one was tall and skinny whilst the other short and round(ish) and wore shades and a blue lightweight jacket? Very Happy

I had a similar 'Hot Fuzz' moment when I got followed (they say chased - hey ho) by a blue unmarked Saab near Blackfriars Bridge. My numberplate was filthy so obviously it warrented me being pulled by these two clowns and also a marked car screeching round the corner, nee-naws a-wailing Police to 'apprehend' me.

Well, actually I had just agreed to pull over when he showed the badge, not exactly sure why they felt the need to do the car chase routine. I'm actually suprised the little fatty didn't do a forward roll over the bonnet. Rolling Eyes

"Your plate, that's breaking the law and we're not having it"

<chuckle> "Okay officer, fair enough."

"What did you do it with? You did it on purpose didn't you!"

"Erm, nope. I just haven't cleaned it for a while."

"Come on, what did you do it with? We know you did it on purpose."

"Erm nope, just a dirty numberplate officer." <shrugs>

***cue this comedy sketch continuing for about five minutes**

After threatening me with everything under the sun (I just chuckled again, seemed to rile them - oops Mr. Green ) they finally let me go with a £30 fine and producer. Laughing Actually quite worth it to see their 'good cop, bad cop' completely over the top routine.

Still, they must love the power they have. Haha. Twats.

Lol Kris,

As it happens one was tall and skinny, and the other was i would say festively plump, but he was about the same height...

Seems like the Met like the old little and large combo when pairing up partners Razz

I'm not anti police but you do get some power hungry wankers in the fuzz, luckily 90% of the coppers who've spoken to me have been alright and bikers themselves.

Well done for staying calm! Thats the hardest part, you just have to bite your lip. But it usually wind's them up moor because if they have nothing on video they cant do much unless you admit to something.

I found this out when the police took me to court for crossing a double white line. It was my word against his and i won!

Not sure if this comment is on topic or not but....
From my experience regular coppers have little time/regard for traffic police.

Shows it's not just the general public that they've lost the respect of.

Well EVEN if you self incriminated you of course have the defence of duress, these points.

Harm threatened must be greater than the harm caused by the crime

The defendant must have become involved in the situation through no fault of his or her own

But as said my respect for police is unchanged , by this post

That is -1000 out of 100,

And I was considering posting about nearly being taken out by a cop car who was on blue lights I was on MY side of the road he came at me on my side of the road) I saw the blighter at a chippy after I'd turned around.

You know I thought of an excellent defence carry some throat lozenges around with you everywhere.

And thus when questioned produce them...(assuming they don't contain any drugs you can be done for) ,

And you can speak either very roughly or write down your answers on a piece of paper and thus think about what you want to say.

but its nearly 5th April , police NEED to get their score card up to scratch.

When speaking to the police always consider what your words will sound like when read out in court.

So:
"I suppose you know why we've stopped you?"

"I'm sorry, I have no idea."

"How fast were you going there?"

If you're sure they haven't got you then "40mph officer" (repeat until they give up). If they might have got you "I'm not certain, I was giving my full attention to the road ahead.".

"Why were you pulling stunts?"

"I have no idea what you're talking about."

In many instances, an outright denial about having done anything wrong or a determined silence as appropriate catch them on the hop.

So on a recent pull I got "Your bike just weaved all over the road when you braked just then. You weren't in control of the vehicle." to which I replied "Motorbikes do that when you brake hard, it's because the weight shifts towards the front wheel.". This completely stopped him in his tracks.

Then they tried "Well why were you braking so hard then?". To which I remained silent, raised an eyebrow, gave their large police car with flashing blue light a significant look then looked back at them. I was tempted to say "Was that a rhetorical question?" but I bit my tongue.

I think the important part is that you in no way admit to doing anything dangerous or being out of control.

A mate of mine reckons telling them you are on the way back from the pub after a couple of pints gets them so over-excited that they forget to do a lot of stuff in their rush to get the breathalyser out. They are then so disappointed when it's negative that they just tell you to fuck off.

Hahaha Excellent Thumbs Up

Upon negative breathalyser result: "Oh you thought i ment alcohol?, oh no i would never drink and ride" Laughing

On the topic of respect for traffic police, I was once flagged down by two street bobbies for turning down a one way street, they were alright about it, and said if they were white caps (traffic) i would have got a ticket, but that "were not cunts", so i think theres an element of truth there. It seems like the jobsworths are attracted to traffic, But then saying that if i actually had to regularly attend fatal RTA's i would have very little tolerance for tomfoolery on the roads...

I find out and out denial of something you have clearly done and that they have clearly seen you do really gets their back up, and makes them look for little things to do you for, whereas if you are slightly elusive they seem to loose the zest for the verbal entrapment pretty soon...

And i will have to remember the old "I dont know what speed i was doing, i was giving my full attention to the road" instead of the bemused shrug i gave today...

Either way thats the third time i have been stopped in as many days, yesterday aparently there was some sort of robbery by someone on a black motorcycle... Or maybe i should stop putting hoodies over my armor/leather jacket it must look shifty to the bacon...

yea, i think its a good tactic to catch people out that don't just outright deny everything. (from their point of view). Must have got a fair few convictions from that.

The "your banned" does get the heart racing IMO even if your fairly certain it wasn't clocked Thumbs Up

It's also interesting to note that a policeman doesn't have the power to impose a driving ban. Nor can they impose penalty points without your agreement.

So I would probably pull them up on a comment such as "You're banned" straight away and enquire what piece of legislation gave them the power to do so.

I just remembered another good one from a mate of mine who rides old Brit bikes. He used to be regularly stopped on his trials BSA B40 which was ear-bleedingly loud, had no lights, illegally knobbly tyres and a registration number tip-exed across the back mudguard.

Coppers being coppers would invariably come out with something like "What the hell do you call this?" To which he would reply "Ahh, interesting you should ask that. This is a 1964 BSA B40, it's an ex army bike and the engine is what is referred to as a unit single. This particlular one is interesting because... blah.. blah.".

The important thing was to adopt a monotone and don't pause until you see the coppers eyes glaze over. "On your way son" is usually the next comment.

What would be the advised response to "Can one of you tell us why you're riding like absolute cvnts?"

I suspect chewing my cheeks wasn't the most effective tactic.

I've fallen for this unfortunately, fell for the age old question of 'What do you think I've pulled you over for' at which point I admitted I may have strayed across the double white lines leaving it late pulling back in and bang-3 points on my license. If I'd have kept quiet and not said anything I'd probably have got away with an ear bending and a 20 minute lecture by the side of the road, but you live and learn.

If you don't know what speed you were doing it could be twisted by a right bastard as 'without due care and attention' which is worse than an SP30.

I think something like 'the legal limit officer, although I was giving my full attention to the road, what do you think it was'

Which neatly switches the onus on them to make their allegations.

Also I'm sure we already all know this but for the benefit of anyone who doesn't:- NEVER produce any driving documents on the spot, always go for a seven day wonder after confirming your identity with something non-driving related. One of the best reasons for this is that our porcine pals might make a mistake in your details which could lead to any alleged offence being booted out of court. This will be a lot less likely if you gave them your licence to copy from.

I don't think the police have a right to lecture anyone on anything. Their job is to enforce the law, not act as ethical or moral barometers.

If I get stopped for doing something wrong, lights out or speeding or in some cases; nothing. I either want a ticket or I want to go. I know this is self defeating, but I hate being patronised.

I never would and never have apologised to a police officer, thats not what they're for.

Thumbs Up
