My rs125 i the first road bike iv had so iv got to get used to not having a kick start Shocked. When in neutral iv noticed it starts alot quicker if i hold the clutch in, press and hold the starter and release the clutch (with the starter button still pushed in) at a slow to moderate speed.

Is it ok to do this? Is it going to cause any damage to the clutch or starter motor/starter gear?

If anything its better to start with the clutch in... but doubt it makes all that much difference... definetly wouldn't worry about it mate... I do it all the time...

Starting with the clutch in stops the gearbox from spinning and adding load to the starter . . . . . But when cold it will hardly make any difference as the clutch will drag with cold oil anyway.

The gearbox adds a reasonable amount of resistance on some bikes and IMO it's usually best to start with the clutch in.

It's a good habbit as it prevents potential mistakes with the bike being in gear.

Even with cold oil I think most clutches (certainly all the bikes I've had) will mostly slip rather than grip.

I do it on my 125, because the starter is quite weak and the battery is tiny.

Does help a bit.

I have to pull the clutch in on my 1400 it will not engage the starter without it so  i would say its a good thing. Smile
