This may sounds strange question but i need to go to the US embassy to get a J-1 visa (got some summer job there, low pay but get flights so can travel after sort of thing) and think i might save some time (and boredom) if i take the a few A roads on the 'four there instead.

Now, the reason i ask is that my bike has a system 3 alarm (datatool i think). I know your not allowed electric devices in the US embassy, does an alarm fob count in this?

Also, anyone every park regularly in london? is it worth taking the bike from Bath or just the 1.5hour train to Paddington and tube?

Thanks

There are concrete blocks all round the US embassy I think the yanks will blow your bike up and shoot you if you park against them.
Absolute disgrace having a foreign nation build a fortress in our capital city.

I think you are overthinking it, Just take out the fob along with your metal and put it in a tray with the rest of the stuff, there should be no problem...

The embassy is in grovesnor square and they have cordoned off most of the square on their half along with armed police carrying sub-machine guns at various points around... You should be able to find parking in the roads nearby, but dont even think about parking slightly out of a bike bay or not paying if you indeed have to pay, its westminster and their parking wardens are the worst in the world... Absolute nazi's.

Plus during the day there is usually a large queue of yankee tourists outside the building waiting to get into the security tent before the building...

You will be fine, ride in, just dont do what i did and park my tatty dispatch bike up on the pavement Wink Thumbs Up

EDIT:

I agree with ariel, back in the 70's my dad was involved in the grosvenor square demonstrations, now you cant get within sight of the building, wheres our right to protest now?

All modern vehicles have an alarm fob of some description. It is pretty unlikely they won't let anyone in with their keys.

No they don't.
Only vehicles fitted with an alarm have an alarm fob.
I would class my bike as 'modern' - it's a 2005 model. It doesn't have an alarm fitted, so i don't have an alarm fob for it, just a key.

Mate,

Allow the bike.

US Embassy is in Grosvenor Square, in the embassy complex (the indonesian embassy is on the corner, italian is near there, and so is the canadian). All i can say is that when i went to get my passport reissued at the indonesian embassy, there were SOME parking spaces on grosvenor square, but chances are that they'll be full of vespas and what not.. i barely managed to squeeze my zxr250 between 2 vespas and to be honest I couldn't care how close i parked and wouldn't care if they fell over because i NEEDED to get it done there and then. It'll be tricky - it's going to be a 2 or 3 hour ride into traffic along the M4 and a pain in the arse.

My suggestion Andy is to take the train from bath or even national express bus to victoria - cheaper.

If you want to take the train to paddington - the number 15 AND number 23 buses heading to Blackwall Tunnel and Liverpool street respectively take you past selfridges/bond street. Get off at selfridges and walk, it's only 2 minutes to the embassies from there and would save you a lot of bother.

If you're going from victoria coach station, take the 82 bus to north finchley and get off at marble arch OR along park lane and walk - 2-5 minutes.

What with the price of petrol increasing and some places are considerably dearer, i suggest saving yer petrol, hop on the train or bus and enjoy the ride. London is a proper pain in the arse during weekdays and i wouldn't want to go into all that bother for a visa on a bike. They're gonna suspect ur a tewwowist with your black visor and biking attire. Thumbs Up

If you need help on transport directions and buses, I'M DAH man.

Laughing Made me laugh that. My bike will do them if it's started with too much throttle as well as on the killswitch.

I believe you need an appointment to get into the USA Embassy and it does seem as though electronic devices, including mobile phones etc, are not allowed.
