sunglasses...again

im sure this has been covered before but i've done a search and not found the answer im looking for.

so about a month ago i got my 125 Intruder and im now quite comfortable with it, done town and country riding with no problems so i popped into Arnolds in Nottingham today and had quite alot of expensive summer stuff put on order among which an open face lid.

at the moment the shades i wear in my full face are the cheapo aviators from the local garage but i cant ride any faster that about 30mph with my visor open without my eyes watering. Is this just because they are cheap and dont sit very well or is this a problem with all shades...or do i just need to man up?

im not looking at spending any more than £30-40 as im pretty clumsy with them no matter what the price is, worst one is putting them on my head (i wear a bandana) and leaning forward to watch them crash, lens first, onto the floor!


so, good motorcycle aviators for under £40?

well obviously i do at the moment but with an open face that'll be fairly difficult...

and regarding bugs i shall see how i go but i think that bandanna that goes on my head will likely be round my face lol

Aviators are no good, they let wind up the sides.

You need wraparounds.

Man up? I used to ride 90mph home with the visor up for a few hours on some journeys. You just get used to it. Biggest problem is flies, they really hurt.

Get a pinlock to stop it misting if thats the problem? They are amazing bits of kit. Otherwise just keep your visor down, and keep it about a finger crack open to let air in.

I have some Davida sunglasses to go with the open face. Padded around the eyes to reduce windblast straight into the cornea, and come with a few different colour of lenses.

With open face, you'll want something that sits tight on your face: goggles, or sports/cycling glasses with foam backing.

They should conform to and be marked with: BS 4110:1979 Grade X; BS 4110:1979 XA, YA or ZA; 89/686/EEC; 93/68/EEC, 93/95/EEC or 96/58/EEC. And of course, every copper you encounter will have that memorised.

You'll get used to it mate.
When your eyes start watering: Blink hard/scrunch up face a few times untill it stops. 3-6 months of riding in open face/shades with no visor and your body just sorta gets used to it.

My lid has a visor position the keeps it open about 1 poss 2 mm, seems to help a lot when need be.

I was pegging it down the road the other day and i had an insect hit the visor like a marbel and left a massive green splodge on the visor

If id been open face id have eaten that beast!..

My eyes still water when i get the air under the lid, but it stops pretty quick with afew blinks..

watch that bandana that will get you raped in certain pubs.
