I agree see this thread,

Me and toby both own/owned gs's.

The motor is solid, everything else is shit.

With about £80 - £150 and a few hours spent on it, it can be made to handle mind.

Thanks for the advice. I liked the look and the price but was concerned about corrosion. I can repair most things myself as I am an engineer by trade.
After thinking about it I will probably go for a second hand better bike.
I was just gonna get a 125 then thought I would probably hate it after a couple of month, I dont want a thirsty expensive to insure flying machine as I am too old for all that lol.

A CB5 would be an infinitely better buy.

The GS was great when it works, it handled well enough and had a good motor, but was let down by the suspension and brakes, also found it hideously uncomfortable, If you like riding whilst seated upon your own genitals, go for it Very Happy

I would recomend a CBF600, I had one as a hire bike and loved it.

The GS is very small and most things on it are crap, it is a 20 year old design which they haven't change much (mechanically) in that time.

Decided to look at a used cheaper bike. I dont really want to go above 500cc as its big enough and powerful enough for me. Honda seems like a nice bike but if its anything like their cars then parts must be expensive. I have been looking at a Kawasaki er5, cheap to buy, run and insure. Rust should not be a problem as it will be fairweather use only and garaged, I also have plenty time to keep it clean etc.

I was also toying with the idea of a Yamaha Virago as I like the cruiser type bikes and they seem to hold their money so not a bad investment either.

According to reputation:

It's a Honda, who cares if the parts are expensive, you won't ever need to replace anything.
