Im going to America this summer to work for a bit (~2 months) and then finish 10th August, plane booked 10th September and around £800 (with another 4-500 emergency that i really cant afford to touch)
The point is, ive never been (we were going to go before 9/11 but it scared my rents out of it ) and really want to see a fair amount.
I'm starting in Ohio and Finishing in New York City and would like to make it Iowa for a few days as my flatmates is on placement there for a year.
Anyone recommend places/attractions etc? Its a real shame i cant take the bike as would be so fucking cool to ride across America but oh well. ____________________ 99 RS125 --> 02 SV650s --> 03 Speed Four --> 92 RXS100 --> 93 CB400sf --> 01 CB600f Hornet |

The south is sh!t the people are lame.
I have lived in the south 3 times in total
Louisiana, Florida now North Carolina.
Well the redneck south is crap.
Texas and Florida were alright.
My mates coming out in June for 2 weeks and is gonna ride the six, we are either going to ride to Florida (Miami, daytona beach) or New York. ____________________ ◙◙► K6 GSXR 600 ◄◙◙◙◙► K5 GSXR 1000 ◄◙◙◙◙► K5 GSXR 600 ◄◙◙◙◙► 96 RF600r ◄◙◙

I've had a crack at 4 different road trips in the US with just a basic itinerary worked out beforehand to encompass things that we wanted to see - Basically though the premise was always just hire a car and drive. Even took the parents one year in a big Chrysler Voyager. I'm a bit vague on my years but...
2002 we did Boston, the East Coast and New England area in the Fall - Superb quite possible my favourite for scenery but unfortunately it was done before I had a digi-camera!
2003 was LA, Vegas, Palm Springs, and the area surround it - A real adventure - on this 'un we learned that heading off the interstate an exploring was DEFINITELY the way to experience the real America. One ighlight included driving through the Mojave Preserve and Joshuaa Tree National Park and not seeing a soul for about 9 hours
2004 was Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, and South of New Orleans on the Bayou (unfortunatley severely affected by Katrina).
2005 was San Francisco, Yosemite, Death Valley, Vegas (again - had to be done!) and then Santa Monica, Malibu back up the West coast.
Few pics over the years...
Hire Car - Big enough for two d'you reckon?...

Death Valley...

My Advice - just do it - get Google maps out and start plotting a course, don't listen to all of the jingoistic anti-American shite spouted all over the place. I could bore you with allsorts of Story's relating to the friendliness and generosity of these people
(of course ths post was always about pic whoring really ) ____________________ Mellow Yellow

Oh no doubt rednecks can be fun.
We hot boxxed a mates explorer, then went out in his boat throwing what I guess was half sticks of dynamite in the lake and laughing our asses off.
And assaulting other peoples houses with a spud cannon.
Then getting all paranoid when we went out for a ride.
And Florida isn't full of rednecks.
Daytona beach is alright. ____________________ ◙◙► K6 GSXR 600 ◄◙◙◙◙► K5 GSXR 1000 ◄◙◙◙◙► K5 GSXR 600 ◄◙◙◙◙► 96 RF600r ◄◙◙

I have a huge family on the ''West side''. We went over there back when I was 16 in 1996 for a month.
Memory is a bit sketchy but here's what I remember:
Week 1 and 4 was spent around California and surrounding places of interest. (Muir Woods, Phoenix, DisneyLand LA, Hollywood inc Universal Studio's, San Fransisco, Paramount's Little USA, drive by the world's oldest lightbulb in Livermore.)
Week 2 and 3 was a road trip holiday in a holiday. We rented a RV with my Aunt & Uncle and they took us inland and we visited most of the touristy places, plus some less visited places of interest:
Nevada, Reno, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, Oregon, Colorado & Idaho.
Places like the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite, the road close to Area 51, some native Indian museum, dinosaur museum, Cactus museum and similarly booring museums....
I prefer Wendy's over Macy d's or Burger King any day. I'd love to go back too one day. |
