 |
|
Right guys and gals, just a bit of midweek fun!
If you entered a stock Ducati Desmosedici in the British Superbike championship how well do you think it would do?
This is assuming:
- all bikes were on the same tyres
- The Desmo's suspension was correctly set up (without changing any parts though...)
- if rider ability wasn't taken into consideration
I'm talking purely from a bike point of view. ____________________ Kawasaki ER6n -> Honda CBR600RR -> Honda VTR 1000 -> Moto Guzzi Norge 1200

I thought the 'desmo' was supposed to put out 200hp or so? Or is that a 'claimed crank' figure?
Superbikes are limited to no less than 165kg still, I think. Not sure the weight of the Desmo; be a bit disapointing if it's much more than this.
You can usually buy last-year's mid-pack four-cylinder BSB bike for around 15k with some spares at the end of the season.
Could probably quite easily get a V5 (no MOT for three years too ) and stick on some light weight road kit on.
Factor in another, say, 1k for a decent-ish engine refresh.
That's a hell of a lot of bike for money compared to the Duke. Would look and sound better too . |

Good points all round.
I'd love to have a go on both and give you my verdict! lol
I'll have to ask my mate what he thinks coz he used to race in the BSB a while back. Did all his own tuning and had a masters degree in engineering etc.
Plus, and most important of all, he used to race a ZX10R = certified nutter.

Do you mean a stock Desmosedici or a stock Desmosedici RR?
Yes, I'm being pedantic!
Desmosedici GP06 = ~230 RWHP
Desmosedici RR = ~180 RWHP
Sacrificed some horsepower to make that V4 reliable enough, but still not bad for 990cc road bike, I'm hoping the rumours may turn out to be true and the V4 is put in the successor to the 1098. ____________________ Give me ambiguity or give me something else. |

most testers that tried the desmo said they would have probably been faster on a stock road 600 or 1000 as it doesnt work at all until you are going absolutely flat out
they also said it wouldnt work on the road well at all, so dont be too envious when you see the sunday posers out bouncing down the road and then highsiding if they try to give it stick
its a lovely rep, but i would imagine it would be kinda shit to try use on the road(altho im sure you would convince yourself it was worth it!)
id guess at 180 at the wheel with the race exhausts and around the same weight as the 1098 |

From what I've read even crippled down to 180 the way that V4 puts down the power makes a pig to ride.
It's a collectors item, very few will be used in anger, still would like one. ____________________ Give me ambiguity or give me something else. |
