Hi guys, I'm wondering if any 1 knows nething about the NSR125 air boxes. I reckon they are a bit restrictive cos I took it off and ran the bike and its sounds and goes much better.

Ne 1 know if you can get a K & N filter or similar and if it will make any difference

Cheers

Pikey

with a 2 stroke you might as well just not bother - the thick mixture going through on each combustion will clean up any mud or dirt, and they get rebuilt regularly anyway. Sod the K&N, just take out the airbox and run open carbs or put some tights over the carb mouths.

If you add the K&n to a decent pipe and a bit of tewaking you might manage a hp or two Smile

if you take out the airbox and rip the baffles out the NSR pipe you'll get a similar gain and save yourself 300 quid.

and it should sound ace, in a silly kinda way.

Hi

Throwing away the airbox and just sticking some tights over the carb inlet is likely to loose you power. One of the most important bits of an air filter is the area of it. By putting a mesh over the carb you are going to restrict it.

Dont think there is a K&N filter replacement for the airbox. You can get the individual filters to replace the airbox. They may give you a bit more power if the airbox is restrictive, will sound deeper, will be a pain if they get wet (such as in the rain or washing the bike) and will require rejetting

All the best

Keith

Cheers for the replies guys.

I tried running the bike without the air box and it sounded a lot louder. It pulled much better through the mid range and it wanted to rev well to the redline which it never did before.

Don't think it's a good idea running it without the filter thu.

Might think about getting reed valves and rejetting if I did the filter but not sure if I wanna spend all that money for not much gain.

Anyone know where I could get a filter for it. I can't anywhere that does NSR stuff?! Cool

Hi

I wouldnt run without an air filter. In a dusty environment you will wreck the engine in about 500 miles, even assuming it doesnt catch any large stones

Running without an air box does make it sound deeper. If you want a filter then K&N do the single ones by size. Just measure up the size of the carb inlet and order from that

All the best

IS that it wouldn't hit the redline at all or wouldn't hit it in 6th?
If it doesn't hit it at all what's the top speed? If it's 75ish then it's restricted.
Get it deresctricted for a significant performance increase.

Nah, I de-restricted it a while ago, but with the air box on it seems to loose power at about 10 grand.

Without the air box it seems to rev to the redline without losing any power.

Praps I'm being too fussy, after all it is only a screamer with about a half a brake horsepower! Twisted Evil

I did yeah. Took that plate out the carb and drilled that silly small insert in the exhaust out.

I also heard that the proper de-restricted bikes have got a different rear sprocket to give them a faster top speed.

I think I'll stick with the accelration and keep my license thanx! Twisted Evil
