Hi,

I own a lovely ZXR400 L2 I had a lil off 2 weeks ago which done some cosmetic damage, (no big deal)

But since as the fairings were off, I decided to change the headers from the orginal 1s to S/S 1s. The bike was set up on a Dyno a month back putting a big hole in me bank. But now that the new headers are on, it's thrown all that Dyno work out the window Sad

Could different pipes really throw the carbs out? I whipped the plugs out only to find they're all black (rich) Also would a air leak cause any problems where the downpipes meet the engine?

Regards

Rich

Headers on their own shouldn't change the mixture but a leak from the exhaust port will.

Did you drop the bike after the dyno setup or before? If after then its possible the floats or other carb internals have been disturbed.

After i stacked it, i picked the bike up and rode it home. It was still running sweet after the spill. Just when i changed the headers it's not reving past 3000. If there is a leak at the outlets, whats the best way to see it?

regards

rich

Hi, if it's leaking at the headers you should be able to hear it, did you replace the outlet gaskets, even if it is leaking it's strange it won't rev past 3000. guessing here but could there be a blockage in the headers !!!! some packaging or something !!!!. If the plugs are black it's running too rich air leaks tend to weaken the mix and cause some popping/backfires. I know it's a pain but try sticking the old headers back on see if the prob goes away
