Hey relativly new to this forum. I have recently bought a 1993 honda cg 125 which seems to have spent more time in the garage than out!

It went back to the garage recenty as would not start at all so different carb, points, spark plug and ht leads were fitted. However when i next started it the idle was extremly high and when coming to a stop from moving the engine would just stall.

Me and some friends believe that it is a possible over fueling problem as will run with throttle but jus cuts outs after that. Is it possible the garage have done it to cover something more serious wrong with it?

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated!

When you come to a stop it stalls? But it idles extremely high? Thats a tough one.

running lean, they tend to rev a little bit higher if they are lean, and when you let go of the throttle (which drops the needle back into the main jet, restricting fuel flow) it gets too lean to keep running.

be thankful its stalling, if it didn't it would blow a hole in the piston.

do a plug check, see what colour it is.

Cheers
John

Is there free play on the throttle.
It may be adjusted wrong and rev to high.
Adjust it at the top of the carb where the cable goes in to the carb.
If the clutch is not adjusted right it will cause drag that might cause it to
stall.
The pilot screw is another thing to sort out.1.1/4 out I think.
You can get the manual on here but I don't have the time to find it for you.

Paddy.

I know its a stupid simple thing but...

Check that ur not riding with the choke on full,

Start the bike with full choke, no throttle and let it idle for a couple of mins

knock the choke to 1/2 while keep the throttle open slightly

after about a mile or 2 knock the choke of and all should be sweet.

hey thanks for the replies.

is a toughie as cg's from the reviews i've heard tend to be indestructable. no not run it on choke at all as weather bin nice.

the plug fouls quite alot as taken it out a few times i.e. dry carbon deposits which points to over rich fuel air mixture, would this lead to the stalling though when not giving it an handful?

in that case I can only put it down to the pilot system, check the pilot jet isn't blocked. turn the pilot air screw (on the bottom of the carb, right at the front) in counting turns until it stops, then turn it back out one and three quarters.

Cheers

I had a similar problem with my 1996 cg when i first bought it, as it would just cut out all the time. Are you sure its not the choke? It took me and my friend ages to figure out if the choke was on or not. They discuss the choke in this thread here: https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=48428

Try pulling the clutch in.

(Sorry... Mr. Green )

Personally I'd take the carb off and give it a good clean. That should sort it out.
