Autosol

just how good is it? I fancy using some to clean up the 125 a bit before I sell it. No doubt it will be handy to use on the bandit too.

Can it get rid of surface rust? Theres a bit on my exhaust which needs to go if possible

theres "not for road use" on mine that has to go, but i am concerned that it'll leave a mark which will make it obvious i've buffed it

You'd need to use wire wool to remove surface rust and go up the grades of wet and dry paper from about 80-800 (depending on if you want it finished ultra shiney, you can go up to 1200). Autosol mainly polishes out the surface of the metal and produces a mirror finish. You can't expect much if you're applying it straight to the rust. Also, what material are you applying autosol to? If it's mild steel on the exhaust, then simply get BBQ or heatproof/high temp paint. If the rust has removed some chrome on the exhaust, then you're out of luck mate.

Use it only if you want completly knackered chrome as it is an acid and it will do more harm than good and will eventually cause severe pitting you are better using auto glyn products and plenty of elbow grease

If you are using it on a large area that is in bad condition then autosol can turn into long hard work. It gets good results though.

Awesome stuff. Have to use it every other week on my bike (Completely polished wheels, Stainless can + link pipe, Clutch cover, Stator + Pickup covers, Sprocket cover, Yokes, Risers, Rearsets and the levers)

Looks brilliant all polished up, One shower and its all dull again

As said before autosol eats aluminium and pits which is why once you use it you have to reuse it on virtually a weekly basis
Have just found a better alternative and its recommended by a lot of major manufacture and it is made by Auto Glyn and it is a metal polish absolutely superb and when used actually leaves a protective wax coat on top and rain water runs off it

with Stevep on this one, I would never even dream of using Autosol on my pride & joy, you are asking for trouble.
I use Auto Glym products, they give a fantastic result without eating away at the chrome or stainless bits on your bike.

Found this about autosol.

It, as stated, also contains ammonia which can cause long term cracking in metals.

It is an abrasive, so theoretically that tells you that it removes a layer from whatever you are polishing, used over a period of time that means any lacquer on the part will be removed, leaving it unprotected.
