Sorry I meant Hornet
Anyway my mate is doing his Direct access in June and is meant to be picking up a hornet which sounds like a right steal. It's a T reg Hornet with a special paint job not sure if it is limited edition or aftermarket it is a yellow bike with black Hornet like stripes. It only has 7k miles on it and 1 lady owner. That for £1700, it sounds very good to me. I'm gonna have to ride it back and check it out for him, I get the feeling it has been sat for a bit is there anything I should check other than the usual? ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.
Skudd:- Perhaps she just thinks you are a window licker and is being nice just in case she becomes another Jill Dando.
WANTED:- Fujinon (Fuji) M42 (Screw on) lenses, let me know if you have anything. |

CCT is a known weak spot on hornet's.
Reg/rec's can go.
2nd gear can pop, give it some welly in second and see if it jumps.
Check it's not an ex hornet cup bike, chipped wheels, drilling sump plug, lockwiring etc.
If it's been downgeared the speedo will read well out since it takes the reading from the sprocket.
Good mods:
Hugger
FendaExtenda
BTW That's a special paint scheme, I don't recall there being a factory colour like that. ____________________ My Flickr |

T reg with 7k miles for £1700?
That does sound like a steal... Could be the paint job that brought the price down but I usually see '98-'00 Hornets with around 20k miles go for £1.8k...
Check what Ham said for and the usual stuff.

Yeh, with that low mileage I wouldn't be surprised if it was an ex-track bike. Ham covered it all I think... ____________________ Full licence from 16/4/08

Only other thing to look at is the stops on the frame where the bottom yoke hits it (to give you your "lock to lock"). If they've been dented it's been down the road.
I got my T reg Hornet with 7K on it for £1200 |

Only because my engine is broken. And it's only slower by a fraction still.
Also, nothing will be able to touch me when I put a new engine in ____________________ '99 Hornet 600 , VFR 400 NC30 '92 , Kasawamasaki GT 550 , '98 Hornet 600

I fell off my yellow one at 80 on Cadwell and all it did was scratch the tank.
Jake your soft plumb bollocks dented the tank and molotov your exhaust fell off cause it couldn't stand being on a shitty blue Hornet. Yellow is the only colour for a Hornet |

That's bollocks
It's a '99 reg (same as mine) so it is the 16". There isn't a huge difference between the tyre sizes. Never ever had a problem with the front wheel nor cornering. |
I will take care especially since I will be coming off the TDM which is an 18" front. I always take care when on a new bike, especially if it aint mine! ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

That was my answer to the OP's question and I have had no problem with
the 16 front wheel but some do if they are going from a bigger one to it.
Is that ok with you.?
Paddy. |
