Should I go out and do the following to my bike?

  • Get a Fuel exhaust, and custom link pipe made up. Lady thought £170 for the stainless steel one (forget to ask about carbon one) she said she was over estimating to be on the safe side.
  • K&n air filter
  • With the above fitted, carbs setup nicely on a dyno while making sure its 33bhp (currently 28.2bhp with restriction kit)

Now I can only justify getting the exhaust because it will look good and sound good. My dad says it wont sound any better and has a really annoying (but sometime useful) habit of being to talk me out of spending money on anything he deems un-needed. My current is fine, not scratched or anything, just a normal bog standard exhaust.

The k&n filter will save me having to replace the honda one every 8,000 miles or something silly. Would like to get those air filters which mount on the carbs themselves, but I dunno if you can get them for a hornet 600 (250 air filter same as 600).

Oh decisions.

Get the can, forget the K&N and take the restrictors out.

Best of both worlds, more power, sounds better and waste less money Laughing

I'd go for the can. Do those Fuel exhausts sound any good? Been thinking about getting one as there reasonably cheap.

Don't do it and put the money towards driving lessons and tests.

Hold on this is the Hornet 250 right? , erm no? , you'll get bigger power gains £ for £ if you get another bike.

Infact thining about it in my crazy little way you can get a 900cc fireblade engine for £200 and since the Hornet doesn't have any side spars or side cradles you can probably shoe horn in a blade engine,

My own CBR600 'gains' aren't exactly worth it either but these costs were incidental to repairing the CBR if its downpipes were not damaged I'd have not bothered with the 5-10bhp gain I got.

Stock filters are cheap enough for most bikes. Single filters mean dumping the airbox which can often cause other problems (and are a pain when they get wet).

All the best

I'm not to fussed about getting more power, the 5bhp I could gain I doubt I would notice much. I want to keep it legal while I'm restricted, thats why I don't want a bigger bike.

Plus it easy and lots of fun to thrash a small bike.

I think after my exams are finished I will measure up a k&n 600 filter to my 250's and see if there are any obvious differences.

The reason I wanted it setting up on a dyno is that recently the power delivery has been a bit off. Surging and not quite running right at lower rev's. Hmm. Plugs need a look at in a couple more thousand miles I think.

Any one got any idea's to why the stock plugs are more expensive than the iridium ones?

small plugs probably , being that you have an IL4 250 its spark plugs are going to be a fair bit smaller, NC30 spark plugs are double/triple what normal NGK spark plugs cost for my NTV and CBR600. Small plugs less demand less of a production run you get the idea...

Cars are useful for a young mans social life, they can be used for shagging birds in.

You can get the K&N filter for the 600 and it fits in like the normal one.

Paddy.

Too True. I know many young men who use their car as a pulling tool more than a means of transport....

You think that's bad. A 2002 Honda CBR600F can only use 1 type of spark plug and it cost £19.00 each Laughing
