I wonder if you guys can help me. I have been having a little bit of a problem with some little fucker swapping my tax disk over with old out of date ones, it has happened twice now and i dont know what the hell to do.
When i got my bike in December i checked the tax disk and put a reminder in my phone that it ran out in April, but when i went to change it i noticed that it was 2 years out of date!!! I was confused but passed it off as an error on my part and got a new tax disk anyway.
My friend then pointed out to me yesterday that my tax had run out 2 months back, but this could not have been possible as i only got the new one 6 weeks ago, and have the receipts from the post office to prove it. The receipts even states that my tax does not run out for another year.
I checked over the expired tax disk and it has my registration, bike details and the legal holograms all perfectly printed.
How do i prevent this from happening again and should i notify any authorities?
Cheers
Dani

Do you put your new disk in over your old one? It could just be someone nicking the current one...

If you make a colour photocopy of your tax disk and use that instead whilst putting your actual one in your wallet it should be alright.
I'm sure you could easily explain why if a Police officer wanted to tell you off about it.

No i took the old one out before putting in the new one.

Thats a really good idea Shay HTFC, much better than my idea of just super gluing the tax disk in haha.

Write across it "Copy - original with owner" in permanent OHP marker. Thumbs Up

Yep, as otherwise you can be done for forgery, which is much more serious an offence than not displaying one.

My tax discs are in a folder in my bookcase.

Yeah, i would just keep it on you, in your jacket pocket maybe.

If you get pulled (which you shouldnt) you can display it. I dont see the problem in not displaying it because if the DVLA check, you should have tax.

I am sure I have seen one that locks (tax disk holder) but when i thought about, you could still smash the glass and knab it that way.

I think the best option would be like everyone else say photocopy and carry original in wallet.

Maybe keep the original under the seat since its easy to forget/lose wallets should the police pull you.

id say the bolted down holder is probably the most sensible answer here...

Yeah my brothers got one too.

Easily snap it off without tools though.

Keep it at home? If you don't have tax then you'll get nicked. They don't have to see the disc to know if it's taxed... Thats what their computer is for.

just explain it keeps getting nicked and they will send you on your way.

Take the one(s) they left on your bike to the local plod platz and tell them what you have written here. They may do sod all about it but:
Arrow If you get stopped in the future you have proof of previous occurrences.
Arrow They will have an unsolved crime against their stats. This is theft and so they can't just ignore it.

the offence is failure to display a valid tax disk, so if a jobs worth caught you they could do you for it.
However having said that, a photocopy with the words original with owner of something similar should be ok, as failure to write that could lead to a lot of questions re fraud.
Still think that the allan keyed one is the best idea though, not easy to get into and display a current tax disk.

had this question a few times on here,

I cant see why someone would make a forged one with your bike details and swap it?

As others have said, colour scan it, put that in the holder and then keep the original under the seat...

Most police wont even look close enough to tell the difference, and a pen written COPY- ORIGINAL WITH OWNER would be an acceptable defence i would say..

Well for the past 6 months I've had no tax disc and it's never been a problem. I ride nearly every day and nobody has ever said anything. Although to be fair I've not been in contact with any police during that period.

I am taxed but my holder was either vandalised or fell apart on it's own some time in early December. All electronic checks will obviously notify the operator if a vehicle is untaxed so stealing one from someone else is completely pointless.

Thanks

Tim

Just so you all know, its also an offence to not have a valid disk on display and you can get a fine for it.

Thumbs Up

In the city of York it is legal to kill a Scotsman within the ancient city walls, but only if he is carrying a bow and arrow.

Just so you all know.

It's still legal to shoot a Scotsman on the beach with a bow and arrow on The Isle of Man. Crying or Very sad

Not got me yet!!
