if its running to cold, try covering up the radiator with some ductape
or similar, only like 10% of the area, that should run the bike a bit warmer.

Havent a clue "where it should sit right" in the rev range.
Maybe newbie might be able to help you out with that one...

Do you mean where it should sit when: its idelling over? or when its warming up (choked), or where you should sit it in the range when riding it?

Question

<on topic> I dunno about 2-smokes, but my RVF sits at 2k when the choke is on, and about 1.3-1.6k on idle.

Well the NSR once warm should be about

1,400 + - 100

on choke in the winter when it was covered in snow, it once went up to 5'000 on choke.

but normally its about 3'000 on choke till it slides off down to about 1'700.

i supose it will be a similar rpm on the RS, as long as it doesnt cut out then its fine.

Embarassed Embarassed fixed my post now Smile

My NSR was about the same as scotty's, and I cant see there being much difference between them and the RS (other than quality Razz )

ZX I was told to sit it at about 4k with the choke, and i think its about 1.2k without the choke

mine idels at 1.5rpm now that keith adjusted it for me Smile before it was just cutting out.

Like scotty said a bit of ductape or tin foil over about 10-20% of the radiator, it will warm up quicker. Watch the temp though because on a warm day it may cause it to over heat so be careful.

keith said anything over 130 degrees is dangerous... it should be running in the 80 degree region under normal conditions

For the idle speed something of around 1200~1500 should be about right. I dont worry too much abou the actual revs, just that it is happy to idle at those revs for quite a while

For the temp, about 80 is normal on an RS. If it goes much over that then start to get concerned. If it gets to 120 then get really worried.

On mine I just start the engine and ride off almost immediatly, but keep the revs down to below 5000ish until it has got up to full temperature

All the best

Keith

Hi

Not sure with the ZX. It is probably around the 80~100mark, but best read the manual. Does it even have actual temperature markings in the temp gauge?

All the best

Coolant doesn't really get used up, so it only needs topping up very occasionally

coolant doesnt get used up as all it is used for is to cool the engine if it gets too warm (so it gets re-used). The only reason it would go down if by either evapouration (would take a long time) or a leak of some sort.

Or leaking into the cylinder and being burnt up muhahaha, which will cause all dorts of problems.

Doesnt it need changing every so often..?
Make sure you got some good old anti freeze in there.

the oil from the engine flows around the oil cooler. when you do an oil chage the oil will all come out and when you top it up it will top up the oil cooler too.

so no separate oil.
