Hi,

Wonder if someone can throw me some lights javascript:emoticon('Very Happy')

I'm planning going to Spain end of October and I'm wondering if I should take the ferry to Santander, or just going through France.

Looking online, I can see the average price for the return trip Plymouth <-> Santander is around 500 quid for a cabin.

Question: When you book a cabin (1/2 or 4 berth) that's it means that you need to share the cabin with someone else, or you just get the whole cabin for yourself? Never been in a Ferry overnight so not sure how it works.

Cheers,
Jav

I bought a one-way ticket to Santander for £155. It's much cheaper if you don't need a full cabin and just put up with a reclining seat.

I worked out the cost of driving down through france including fuel, petrol, tyre wear and accomodation to be more than £155 so it makes sense to me. I will be riding back up through France though, because I want to explore there too Smile

Thanks for the reply.

I'm looking at the route through France, I guess it can be easly done in 3 or 4 days, 300 miles per day.

400 quid doesn't look too expensive if is the full cabin, but it is kind of a waste of space javascript:emoticon('Very Happy')
Would check the price for a seat, but it could be nasty and not too comfy

I guess I would give them a call, maybe I'm been to optimistic thinking that paying 400 quid I would get the whole cabin just for me, but otherwise , if they charge 400 pounds for each berth in a 4 berth cabin, that would be like an arm robbery javascript:emoticon('Razz')

All the ferries I've used give a whole cabin for you. If you try a 4 berth, you will notice they charge you more. They have far more cabins than you expect and it really is not a problem one person having one to themselves, its just more expensive. Most ferries run out of 1/2 berth first and you can nearly always get 4 bert window (as its the most expensive).

Costs for travelling through France are increasing at the moment (due to fuel). I work on the assumption that if I am sprinting to Spain, it will cost about £180 each way (inc accom). If the ferry ticket is less then do that. If not, and you don't mind high miles, France is more convenient. The ferry is slow - P&O 2 days!
Best of luck.

Thanks Nav4, that's exactly what I needed to hear Smile

Would check the france route, I think it could be a good idea going the trip to spain by france and them come back with the Ferry, I've been told that the return trip is always less enjoyable
