Hi guys,

I fitted a new battery to the bike because my old battery died (literally completely dead, wouldn't even bump stasrt) and it worked fine for about two days. Tried starting it this morning and it's as good as dead again already!

When i started it after fitting the new battery, when revving the headlight did not get any brighter, does this suggest its the reg/rec?

1999 Honda Hornet

Could it be anything else?

Thanks!!

Hi

Suggests charging system. And the most likely charging system fault is the regulator / rectifier. Could also be blown fuse, broken wire or a faulty winding on the stator.

All the best

Thank you very much for the reply!

Can i recharge the new battery so i don't have to bother buying another one?

Are there any tests of anything i can do to determine the problem? i don't have a multimeter and can't really afford to change the reg/rec only to find thats not the problem.

Cheers

Hi

Yes you can recharge it. Don't use a car charger (you can get away with it for a short time, but leaving it to charge up fully on one is likely to damage it).

Afraid you really need a multimeter to check things out. Check for continuity over the windings and check for a circuit from the regulator / rectifier to the battery. You can also check the AC voltage over the wires going into the regulator / rectifier.

All the best

Keith
