Right i know im going to be called a idiot, muppet, stupid wan***r and so on.

Id just finished draining the oil on my NSR 125 and getting ready to put the new oil in, so i put the sump plug bolt back in and began to tighten it up, mate came to my house at this point (was doing it in the front garden) when i tightened the sump plug to tight, IT SNAPPED ! inside the engine, Now i need away to fix this. The plug thread is still inside the engine.

i think a engine rebuild would sort this out ?
anyone had this problem before ?! best way to sort it out please.

all help appreciated.

pop the sump off and see if you get any purchase on the inside and keep screwing it through.
or unscrew it the way it went in.

thats hardly a reason for a engine rebuild, or something you'd even consider when doing a rebuild.

if you still can't get it, then you will have to drill a small hole in it and use a bolt extracter set,
or take it to your local welders and get them to weld a small bit of metal to it so you can unscrew the broken bit...
have fun

If you've got a dremmel you could make a slot that you could fit a flat head screw driver in.

engine out sump off, new sump in

or grind a slot into it, flat head screw driver, mole grips, weld a bolt onto it, drill it out and use an extractor thingy majig. Thats the lot really.

Hi

2 stroke so almost certainly no seperate sump. The drain plug probably goes directly into the crankcases.

You might well find that now there is no head on it the bolt is fairly loose it you can get anything to grip it.

All the best

Keith

I'd go for the Dremel idea above, but you might also want to look at this:

https://www.jmldirect.com/Screw-Extractor-PS5616/

Given that it can cut into the rounded head of a screw, you might find that it can cut into your sump plug and take it out.

Drill a few small hole in it in a line like this:

ooo

so that they overlap slightly, then stick a flat screwdriver in it and unscrew.

The NSR has no sump, if you wanted to replace the case you would have to split the engine in half, no easy job. But if you do decide that is the only option I think I've still got that half of the engine casing that hasn't been sold yet. Unless its on the right side of the engine then no I don't.

Almost certainly the crankcase halves are a matched pair.

All the best

You sure? I got two engines in half at the moment, I know which is from which engine but they look very similar to me.

Hi

Yes, the difference will be very minor but the main bearings positions, etc, and likely to be bored for both cases at the same time. This way they line up perfectly.

Same is done with camshaft caps on 4 strokes.

All the best

Keith

If the head snapped off then I'd try either the slotting as mentioned before or even easier Try tapping it round with a centre punch or grind something hard to a point and try that. if you get it to start turning it should come out pretty easy.

Probably the only situation I would suggest using an easy-out. Drill the plug and wind it out.
