Been repairing & biking for a few years now but this has me stumped so far Exclamation

I bought a non runner speedfight 2 & after putting a battery on it & refitting the exhaust boy was it slow Shocked it s better with its new variator but still slow acceleration & top speed so , so far this is what i have done & found

Fitted new polini variator with the lighter rollers
Checked & cleaned jets - main #72 & pilot # 42
Needle position unknown
Added a polini pod air filter
Found a yellow contra spring
Decoked it
Checked the tecnogas pipe dosent have a restrictor in.
The malossi belt "looks" Ok
Clutch bites OK, so i just deglazed it.
Reeds look Ok ( can see real tiny amount of light through the "lip" of one only but the reed seats are poorly finished with a rubber coating that less than perfect so looks standard.

I get plenty of induction roar & its seems like it isnt revving out , also theres some drag in the gearbox / relay noticed when belt was off, does 20 or 24 on a flat , starts ok hot , cold it wont start unless filter is crushed ( thats my manual choke ! )

Anything i have missed Question

I bet if you put the standard air filter on it would work fine. The K&N style filter is making it run stupidly lean. I had the exact same problem on my speedfight after the chav i bought it off decided to try and ''de-restrict it''.

I think the needle should be in the second from the top notch.

I doubt the pod is making it run lean especially with a 72 main jet.

It came with no filter at all or any pipework or airbox etc.. could be lean , i havent done a plug chop yet,

Whats the standard main jet size ?

How long do you have to run it for before the plug chop test gives a " true " colour ?

Can a plug chop test be done by running the bike on a stand ? its far from road legal yet Twisted Evil

As far as I know the standard main jet is around 60ish.

Maybe try joining the Pug Club, they'll know a lot more.

Cant be the plug, a plugs ultimate test ( in anything other than race engine) is to start the bike, & it does this fine & runs fine..

standard main is 72 & top position on needle ( weakest ) so looks like lean at mo.

Will order an 82 & go from there..

Too much air getting in. Ie. too lean
Try bigger jets or the standard airbox.
