 |
|
Just thought id share some cheap camping gear with you, im planning on doing some touring on the bike, possibly to scotland and then to europe...
First of all, and the most obvious is the tent.. now I vaguely remembered getting p!ssed one night and buying a tent from ASDA and setting it up randomly in Basildon.. (so it must of been simple to set up!) unfortunately it got destroyed by a large gang of chavs (i found the smoldered remains the next day as i had to ditch it after 10 of them decided to jump on it..)
Anyway, at that time these were £10, no guy ropes to trip over, just four pegs at each of the corners to hold it down..

Now, it looks TINY, if your over 6ft i wouldn't recommend it, im about 5ft11 and i just about push it out
But like the tardis, its bigger on the inside.. and for £7 you cant go wrong..

Thats a double airbed (INTEX) in there... pumped up with a electric pump bought from ASDA too that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket (bought a motorcycle ready one from Ebay a while ago).
Also there is a inflatable pillow which matches the airbed perfect..

The pillow was a bargain from Poundland, which sell camping gear now (yes.. its all a pound! )
As well as that i bought a rubber mallet from them.. i already had the sleeping bag... but again ASDA sell them pretty cheap (£8 i think).
Now, i was a bit 'dubious' about four pegs keeping me to the ground, so i thought id test it, so i pumped up the airbed, blew the pillow up.. and camped in my garden (where its currently set up) in the high winds the other night..
And it didnt move an inch, which i cant say for my neighbours gazebo, which i found a 3am threatening to smash one of our skylights..
Best bit is it does all come together and pack neatly into a small bag, which i bungie to the top of my hard panniers..

Heres my weapon of choice as well..
Its a 1979 Honda CB750kz with ancient original honda hard panniers and a givi topbox

Anyway, hope this post helps some of you hoping to go touring.. ____________________ Bringing Classic Bikes Back Into Fashion

Was that spending the night in it, or just leaving it as is?
Anyway, will be interesting to hear a report when it's been 'used in anger' . |

Perhaps he means giving it a good thrashing with a stick, Basil Fawlty style. |

Tsk hotels have problems:
They lock you into a certain route, if you book, which means you can miss out of routes off the beaten track , which I found many.
If you don't book it locks you into hotel running , before they get filled up which leads to riding wayy too fast , and riding round looking for alternative hotels when they are full. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Plus if you are on your own hotels get very expensive after a few nights, but if you have the money than why not... ____________________ My Bikes: Piaggio NRG| Aprilia RS 125| Suzuki GSX-R 600|Yamaha Fazer Ducati 848

That little green tent is the tiniest thing I've ever seen.
And I agree with the 2nd picture, used to use those tents in Cubs and the Scouts. Virtually bullet proof
p.s. I hadn't put all the guy ropes out by that time but it wasn't windy at all anyway ____________________ Bike - '98 Yamaha YZF600 Thundercat Pics

Yes, the simple A frame scout tents were brilliant, but also very very heavy..and the cheaper alternatives dont match up to the scouts canvas stuff I had a brown one for years which we were given when the scouts upgraded to different style green ones.
Nobody got anything to say about the offer on GetGeared? ____________________ Bringing Classic Bikes Back Into Fashion
