When riding over bumps or changes of road surface...

it feels like my back tyre is slipping around.

I never experienced this on any of my previous bikes.

Is it just because this bike has a much larger back tyre than anything I've ridden before? The tyre looks in good condition.

I can tell that the bike's going to stay upright, it just feels slightly unnerving, like I'm losing the back end.

Similar thing here, I'm finding every bump I go over literally makes me jump out of my seat! Accelerating up a bendy slip road the other day made the back end feel kind of skitish. I'm guessing the tyre pressure is too high (I've yet to find any manuals about my bike pressures!) or the suspension is too hard - no idea how to change that though, if indeed I can!

Rather than look in the handbook for tyre pressures. Visit the tyre manufactures site and look for you tyre.
Seems many replacement tyres run better at pressures diffrent to OEM stuff.

tyre manufacturers will just give max pressure which will be a lot higher than the pressure specified in the manual for your bike

tyre manufacturers do not give recommended running pressures, they just give max pressures which are not designed to be actually used

you need to run it at the pressure stated in your bike handbook or manual

I don't have a manual for my SLR650 and so have no idea what the tyre pressures are supposed to be, I've just put them to the same as my XR was with a little extra for the added weight! But still plenty lower than the max stated on the tyre wall...

Thing is, I don't have a handbook - does anyone happen to know the correct tyre pressures for a Kawasaki EL250?

is it printed on the swing arm?
They are on mine, not sure if that is a standard across the manufacturers though..

it will be something between 20 psi and 40 psi, most likely very close to 30psi

so if you put the kind of pressure in thats stated on the tyre wall 60psi or so, that would be wrong

the pressure tyre manufacturers put are not actual pressures you are meant to run at, just pressures that the tyre can withstand, when it heats up etc

You're not fat enough!

No idea what the correct pressure is but I always kept the back hard cos of my somewhat porky weight on what is after all only a fairly small bike.

Never had a problem with slippage with that tyre though except occasionally when it was very wet. You may find it settles down of its own accord when the weather gets better.........

New tyres or a new bike will always feel a little weird due to changes in the tyre shape. REALLY noticeable when cornering.

Well, I took a bit of air out of the back tyre last night, and it seems a little better now.

Think it's just wet roads and dodgy surfaces that are the problem, it mostly happens (happened) when going over repairs in the road where it had been filled in with that black tarmacy stuff.

Anyway, it's all good now
