If you'd had enough tuning work done to need an octane booster, you'd already know if you needed it or not. So don't add octane booster, you don't need it.

Optimax is pretty good in small 2-strokes as it happens.

Makes my H100 use significantly less fuel. Enough so it makes up for the difference in price between the optimax and standard unleaded.

ive had the dealer, and another guy tell me not to use optimax, saying that it would make the engine run hotter as its only a single piston??, im fairly mechanically minded and dont see how it would run hotter, i thought the higher the ron the more effiicent and cleaner the 'burn' is?.

Erm cleaner and efficient, does that not equate to a longer burn ? hence the increase in temp. if it does burn hotter can you not get a different temp sparkplug ?

Just babbling as i don't really know anything.

dont think so, its more efficent because it burns all of the fuel sucked into the cylinder and reduces detting, which is a good thing, plus i might be after a new exhaust and as its only a 125 with the optimax exhaust and getting it set up properly on a dyno might see a slight increase in power.

i run my 2 stroke on the tesco stuff which is very similar. I only run it cos it has cleaning stuff in the petrol. I cant really feel a difference in speed.

Its tick over is higher and it runs alot better on it. It starts better as well.

But it doesnt run any hotter, well i dont think so. My oil and temp light come on after 10 mins of riding anyway. Its a fault lol but i dont really care tbh. They flicker with my idicators as well (get brighter when the indicators are flashing, when the bulbs are on not off).

Higher octane means a slighly slower flame-front which has the effect of (extremely) slightly retarded ignition. You don't NEED optimax in any standard bike engine but using it won't do any harm.

Can't see VPower running hotter.

As far as i'm aware the higher the RON the slower the burn so I would guess that meant cooler too.

I run my RS125 exclusively on shell VPower, end of the day the compression ratio is high so IMO that means you need higher ron to stop pinking etc.

Without saying it's the case here, a retarded ignition does produce more heat in the cylinder.

Can't see the relevance of it being a single.

Nope. Higher RON just means it is more resistant to detonation. Does not mean that it will be more efficient or a cleaner burn.

All the best

i find ultimate a lil faster than standard petrol from murko or whatever it is. at first i didn't notice but with experience i do. it seems like with the standard petrol my bike feels sluggish like it is low on petrol while ultimate seems to either last longer or is generally better. then again i don't have any proof. maybe it is my imagination.
