So, being an inattentive eejit and that, I managed the let my back brake pads wear down to bare metal, though thankfully picked it up before i totally screwed the disc.

Bought some cheapy £10 pads from wemoto, and cannot for the life of me fit both of them in, there's maybe a full 1mm more friction material than can fit in there with the disc in.
I've made sure the piston's fully retracted, got the top off the master cylinder and carefully stuck a flat wedge in between the caliper and the disc

Is it likely I've missed something obvious that would stop them going in? Alternatively, is there a safe way to wear them down a bit so they do fit? I did think of running just one of the new ones for a couple of hundred miles until it was a bit more worn, but with the old pads being beyond hope it's not really an option.

If it's the same caliper (mine is) then you could use one partially worn off the front?

You sure you got the pistons pushed all the way in? Put the old ones in and twist a flat bladed screwdriver in between them to lever them back into the caliper.

Make sure the M/Cyl is open and the surround area is covered, be prepared to have to remove some fluid.

You probably haven't wound the pistons all the way in. Use a g clamp if necessary.

They did so just file them down. Wink

Used to do that when there was the asbestos in them anyway.

WAAIT..

clean the pistons up BEFORE you push them in , otherwise you'll be asking on here my brakes are seized which is a strip and rip job, not so bad on a two pot single caliper machine but on a opposed piston machine you need a special tool (to make life much easier).
