Anyone tried one of these? I'm ideally after improving the fuel economy, not gaining power, on the ZX-12R.
Seems OK for the money, just not convinced.

Cheers

Is this one of those dodgy chips you find on ebay which just tricks the ECU into thinking conditions are different to what they really are, and thus the engine runs lean and hot (possibly burning holes in yer pistons?) or something else?.

Good question.... no idea Very Happy
Comes across as something similar to a Power Commander, but who knows?

they did something on chipping a diesel golf for fuel economy on fifth gear. I know the vehicle is different, but I believe it's pretty much the same thing, custom maps for the ecu to make the thing run leaner. It made no difference on the golf, actually being slightly detrimental. My guess is that any gains would depend upon the quality of factory settings in the ecu.

Hi

The cheapo things on Ebay are probably just resistors to go into the wiring loom to the temperature sensors and trick the ECU into adjusting the mixture. Total bodge job.

To be honest, worth getting it done properly. And there are other alternatives to a power commander.

All the best

Keith

Hi Dean

Take it to a decent dyno centre. Power Commander is just one of the things used to fiddle around with the inputs. Other companies make equivalents (just Power Commanders are by far the most well known).

Possibly having a word with John Warrington in Malton (east of York) who should be pretty close to you and knows what he is doing.

All the best

Keith

I thought what these things actually did was make the ECU think it's slightly colder, thereby causing it to run slightly richer, not leaner?

But if it ran richer it would use more fuel.

Well according to their spiel it advances the ignition timing and has 15 different maps for the fuelling.
Thought that might be a pretty tall order.

Hi

Probably tries to adjust the timing by fiddling the the gear position sensor or possibly the inlet air temperate.

All the best

Yep, they do.

By the way, I'm referring to the £5 'chips' on ebay which aren't actually chips at all, they're just little resistors.

But this probably does a similar thing. It looks too cheap to be a proper tuning system, which normally take the form of a piggyback ECU.

They're £40 and apparently connect into the ECU

I bet my right teste that it's not a proper tuning device though.

It may work, but not very well.
