Think its time i invested in some, just got the Virago ive wanted for ages, and even though its not worth more than the 125cc i had, it is worth more to me.
So what shall i get for it? Currently use an alarmed disklock but i keep it garaged anyway, and when i go to my mates or wherever i always take the car unless they have the garage room to leave the bike in (which most of them dont).

I'm hoping by having a cruiser, no one will ever try to steal it without being accused of being a queer.
Any advice?
Also, are 125cc's statistically more often stolen than larger bikes?

most thieves dont know the first things about bikes, unless there planned attacks which mostly happen on high priced motorbikes, and in your case not going to apply. The most common "motorcycle" to be stolen is a moped, for a few reasons, there "easier" to ride the a geared motorcycle (for obvious reasons) and there smaller/lighter.

In your case, a fairly (im assuming) cheap 125 its more a case of you deterring the idiot thieve that will try and steal it. Best way to do this, is to make your bike look well secured.

- A disc lock with the yellow/florescent colour going from disc to handlebars.
-A thick chain, a £20 chain will more or less achieve the same as a £200, until they try and cut it obv.

Hope this help's in the slightest. HJM Thumbs Up

At least blow £20 of your security budget on a Cyclone V2 alarm system - the flashing blue warning light is an excellent psychological deterrent for the average scrote - being a cruiser will be an excellent psychological deterrent for everyone else Smile

Fair play for actually getting a big bike.

Question though... you keep it garaged...and you take that car if you have to park it outside.

All of your posts point to the obvious sexuality Wink

On topic though, a Cyclone V2 will be fairly loud and a piece of cake to fit Thumbs Up

Does anyone pass and stick to a 125?
Even though i did love that GZ, and it was a very useful bike, not only for tests, but as a means of learning the mechanics of bikes (with Tefs help). So now i can do oil changes, tappets, remove wheels, service brakes etc, but the bike was dangerously slow, i was getting overtaken most of the time, and some people barely leave any space as they went past, so it had to go.
Yea Cyclone looks pretty good. I dont need amazing security as it will be locked up out of sight 90% of the time, seen some thick chains and locks on Ebay but i dont know how i would carry one on the virago?

If you are using it like a cruiser, get an optimate on it, though, alarm can suck a lot of juice out the battery if its not kept topped up from actualkly riding the thing.

You carry them in the tasseled saddle bags, and counter balance the other side with the manacles, chaps and gimp-suit...... Rolling Eyes

JUST be careful NOT to get Rophonol on your bandito 'kerchief.....

The virago ain't too bad. I bought one as a cheapo commuter after my smash and I'm actually starting to like the thing. It's got a nice pull upto about 70 and tops out at a ton which is fine for town riding.
I spend £52 on a small givi top box and plate from amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/GIVI-E300-MONOLOCK-30LT-PLATE/dp/B002ZU76GE/ref=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1336045517&sr=1-2
It's big enough for my lock, chain, small tool kit, visor wipes and a bag of shopping or my lid.
As previously said, be careful with the battery, I now turn the lights off when I'm starting it up.

Thanks, the top box looks good but too modern looking for a cruiser, i would have rather had saddle bags but cant see a way to mount them without moving indicators around etc.
Think i will get one of these instead:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200753704800?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Only issue is security of the bag, probably easily nicked

I know it doesn't have a Gucci badge, but, I dont know, it has a neat shoulder strap... perfect Cruiser-Man accessory, I'd have thought...

Just be careful what you put in it, if it has sharp endges it could jab your hip as you mince...... Laughing

DEAR OH DEAR... your adding fuel to the fire, aren't you!

And about that leather bag, it would do the job but i'd want to leave it fixed to the bike and no one else can open it except me, but that would be impossible. I get paranoid about stuff getting nicked.

Thought about soft throwovers?

You can get them in a variety of sizes and styles and, being soft, you can fit them around stuff like indicators quite easily.

A lot of them have a strap that you fit under the seat so if you use that option they are not that easy to remove without cutting through the fairly tough webbing.

TBH I think you're stressing a bit much about security. Confused For this kind of bike and the sound of riding/parking it sounds like you do, all you really need is something visible or noisy to deter the scrotes from having a go.

I have a chain and padlock (run through the back wheel and over the seat) when parked at home, and a disclock that I sometimes remember to take when I go out. I also have a very cheap motion sensor alarm that I filched off a chinese scooter. Very simple to fit but if the bike is moved when I'm not there it goes off loud enough to attract attention. Doesn't drain the battery either.

Audible disc lock is good. Also good to use motorcycle cover.

I have the disklock, alarmed, awesome for a tenner.
Can you get leather throw overs? The only concern is them rubbing against the wheel when turning.

Yes you can get leather throwovers but they are usually stiffer so you have to check that the size will fit on your bike without getting in the way of anything.

How far back are the indicators on your Viagra? They moved right to the rear fender mudguard on later models. Worst case, you may be able to move yours backwards with a bit of cutty-splicey-drilly-bolty.

There's a pannier rack available for the 535 that holds bags away from the wheel; I'd suggest setting up an eBay search and crossing your fingers. You may get lucky - I scooped the 250 rack for next to nothing.

Failing that, get any generic throwovers and start bolting together bits of flat bar stock to hold them out.

Oh you mean these:

But i dont see how they would attach without me drilling holes in the mudguard, which i dont want to do lol.
This is it:

You have a luggage rack on that!
AND a sissy bar!
WHAT is your problem, MAN!
Chain, wrap round bars, padlock round a rail. Cargo net to stop it shifting. JOBBED.
Alternatively get a top-box. Plate clamps to rack. Box clips to plate.

Panier supports BTW look like they bolt to top shock mount and pillion peg.
