Well would you?

Do you think a 1989 NC30 Honda with 20k miles can be a practical everyday bike? I do about 100 miles a day and a cheapo 125 is just a bit too stressed (and slow)

Comfort wise, yeah its a bit tiring but what do you all think of the idea?

I used a NC30 as an every day bike for 8 months. It was very capable and fun to ride. I could get a chain under the seat for leaving it locked up and bike kept me entertained as well as getting me to work.

It's not the most practical for some every day jobs ie: you're doing your shopping etc

comfort depends on your size... I could cope with mine for about two hours then I needed a break. Most I ever did was 250 miles and I was pretty stiff after.

Thanks guys

I find it a wee bike and i'm only 5'9"

Its only for blatting up and down to work on, I have a car for everyday shopping, passengers etc.

Just out of curiosity, since i've only had the bike a few months and i intend to give ita belly rub before it goes into full service, do you know what needs doing service wise at 20k miles?

oil/filter change? check valve clearances?

other than that, you dont need to do anything really, ever.

i wouldnt recomend a strangely configured, up to 20 year old 400 for doing up to 100 miles a day. Dont get me wrong they have a fairly good reliability record but quality parts and the strange parts they use (tiny sparks, rotten rads etc etc) are now becoming increasingly expensive to get. I would probably go for a more run of the mill bandit, hornet, sv style bike these days.

I'm 6foot and it was very small on me, but I managed to cope just fine. One of it's many charms in my opinion.

i would rarely travel within 20 mile radius on my NC 35 even though I kept a full set of tools, wire-connectors, cable-ties etc as it was so unreliable Neutral

Thanks guys

Its a suck it and see scenario. I bought the bike as a toy really but thought I'd maybe see if it could pay its keep. As it stands it's mint and I did buy it to ride. I'm too big a pussy to do trackdays on it.

Failing that I have been offered a 2008 Fazer with 151 miles on it for 3k which might be a better option (lots more money though)

I use mine about 60% of the time going to and from work, depending on the weather when I may take my car.

50 miles a day for work and its great. Im not sure about wear as Iv only had it 3 months now but havent spent anything on it mechanically yet!

I used to go to college down in leamington from Leicester (bout 35miles or so) on an NC30 about 3 yrs ago. As long as you're comfortable with it and you keep on top of the electrics over the winter it should be fine.
And just so you know, i'm 6'5" and it felt fairly comfortable Thumbs Up
In fact i think that NC30's just been bought by one of my old mates...

I wouldn't.

Few years ago I used one daily, about 60 miles a day. Wouldn't wanna repeat that. Bit uncomfy with a bag on my back, poor in traffic. Relatively cheap to run though.

Dare I say it, a Hornet, Fazer or SV650 was better suited to such a task.
