so obviously the pennines area but apart from that anywhere a bit closer? Ive just moved to the city centre and went for a ride today and spent about 30 miles just trying to get out onto some open roads for a bit of a blast but had to give up in the end! So anyone know any good roads close to the city centre good for a quik blast, basiccally im asking which roads are closest to the centre that are good for biking?
thanks

Down here in civilisation, we use things called "maps". Ask your local tribal elder where such magical items may be obtained.

It's a abit rubbish but can also be a good thing as manchester is kinda in the middle of several good routes so you can pick and choose.

You might wanna head towards bolton/rivington (25miles to the a675).

Huddersfield Road on the edge of Oldham/Rochdale is about 10 miles away.

Snakespass is about 20 miles up the motorway.

You can head south past stockport and get yourself to the cat and fiddle in macclesfield (25 miles).

Up here in the real world maps only show a small line that signifies a road, so would seem perfectly sensible to ask on a biking forum where the best ones are for biking. Thanks for nothing. Rolling Eyes

The A59 is nice Razz. Little bit out of your way but worth the journey Very Happy. It goes from Liverpool and through Preston. On this part you will encouter loads of fast dual carriageways, no speed cameras until you get into Preston because the Lancashire Constabulary offices are nearby Razz.

After you get out of Preston, the road just totally changes. It's a scenic two-lane road, not much traffic and it skirts the bottom of the Peak District and runs all the way to Harrogate in Yorkshire. There's some breathtaking sights and it's your gateway to exploring the beautiful sights of the Peak District, nearly every turnoff provides you with another road with amazing views Smile.

Another vote for the A640 Huddersfield Road, From Denshaw all the way to Huddersfield, or take the loop towards Halifax and then get back onto the A58 and head back towards Rochdale.

Vote for the A640 and Cat and Fiddle. The A640 is pretty fun, not on a moped though.

Still need to do the Snake Pass but might save that for the TZR Cool

Up here in the real world maps only show a small line that signifies a road
Very similar to ours then. We add numbers so you know which road it is too. That way, when someone tells you the A537 is a good road, for instance, you'll know where to find it.

Another useful tip is small lines that are squiggly signify roads that are quite good fun to ride, whereas long straight lines don't.
Mate why are you so annoyed with someone asking a bit of advice that your taking time out of your day to write sarcastic remarks, just seems a little strange to me Confused

Ah well dont want to turn this into an argument obviously that wasnt the intention of the thread, but thanks very much to the rest of you anyway guys, think im going to take a trip to the cat n fiddle next sunday. Thumbs Up

Isn't that what he asked before you added your rather useless unhelpful sarcastic post?

Unhelpful, you say? Where are the best roads, sez he - look at a map sez I. That's the single most helpful answer in the entire thread, unless you have the IQ of toejam.

You, Slick, on the other hand, have contributed the grand total of fuck to the entire conversation apart from flapping your lips and taking a pop at my karma. Good drills, you useless waste of organs and monkey spunk. Middle Finger

not really... the way i see it is he asks what roads are decent around manchester... you then reply giving a decent road and he can THEN look up the location of this road on a so called map

if he just looked at a map came on here spowting random a roads and asking if they are good i'm sure he'd be laughed off

Yes indeed you contributed so much in that first post that you now have to click unhide! Well done to you! Thumbs Up

Now go cry elsewhere, if your going to fire sarcasm around make useless posts which it seems I'm not the only one to think, man up and deal with people telling you it was, rather than crying to me about your Karma and then finding some irelevant thread with a relevant post to rate my Karma bad. Now who is the useless and pathetic ?

and lol @ petty insults, get a grip mate.

but a good road depends on the bike.
i know some roads that are a hoot on crosser/smoto style bikes but are zero fun on a sportbike.
cat and fiddle isnt going to be many laughs on a 50 going up hill.
snake pass is a pisser on anything going down bank.
it also depends what kind of rider you are.
some people like to squeak about in thier 1 piece in matlock all afternoon and some people like to ride thier bikes.
it takes all sorts.
what kind of bike/rider are you kind of sorts the what kind of roads are you after?
there are a lot of roads.
