Just been on the phone to the insurance company about taking my bike to university with me...
£413 odd pounds to insure my bike for another 6 months. I paid £270 in the first place, what a joke.
Looks like I'm not taking me bike to university ____________________ Past: Honda x8rs, Honda City fly, Honda Hornet 250, Honda VFR750, Yamaha xt600e.

Leave the bike at home this year, maybe even buy a hack to ride about on. Make friends with more bikers and rent a house with a garage with them next year.
It sounds like we're gonna have 6 bikes between 3 of us (with licenses, house of 4) this year, when the rest of the bikes get here
Incidentally my insurance didn't change from being in the wilds of Gloucestershire to Plymouth, OK we're in a good bit of Plymouth but I was still surprised, garaged at both btw. ____________________ A2 passed 22/07/08; restriction up 22/07/10 (just so I don't forget)

I agree, no need to tell them, even if it gets stolen (touch wood) you were just staying at a friends house.
You know it makes sense having a bike at uni, laugh in the mornings and evenings as you pass the hoardes of puntos queing up for parking spaces, and if your uni is anything like mine sail right up outside the lecture halls, door to door baby |

I didn't tell my insurers I kept its main address as my parents house.
Although to be fair it was only at uni for 2 months before it blown over or knocked over (I never found out which) and the bikes only just back on the road now . ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. Present: 97 ER-5.

Bring it and don't tell them , spending the money on a big beefy chain instead , a bike at university will be a major fanny magnet ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Nah there was decent enough bike parking on site at UWE, thing is my bike can blow over very easily, its happened a couple of times, just this time it landed on a kerb which smashed it up badly .
Or it may have been someone being a dick, I'll never know. This year I'm not taking my bike, but then I am selling it.. I still can't decide whether to try buy a hack or just wait till next summer.. If we ever see another summer. ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. Present: 97 ER-5.

My uni was very shitty about where I parked my bike I had a blazing row with the hall manager apparantly My little RXS100 with about a fivers worth of fuel parked a foot away from a solid brick wall at the side of an unoccuppied flat is more of a fire hazzard than cars parked 3ft from students bedroom windows.
On the plus Side having the Speed Four definately got me laid at least once in my second year.
Where are you going?
What I said when I insured mine was I don't know where I should put my bike with regards to the insurance as I spend half the time at uni and half the time at home. They told me to choose the one you spend most at, I said home. I would like them to prove I spent more than half my time at uni. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. I am going to Leeds uni, I have already sorted out where I'd be parking my bike at the halls and the all seemed fine about it.
I shall have a think about it then ____________________ Past: Honda x8rs, Honda City fly, Honda Hornet 250, Honda VFR750, Yamaha xt600e.

If you do take it with you talk to your accommodation manager about where you can park your bike, mine was quite helpful said I could park in the bike sheds (covered behind security fences + doors + shit loads of CCTV) downside was I'd need someone to open and close the security gates every time I wanted in/out, and they weren't always so helpful about that..
Although in retrospect if I'd parked my bike there it wouldn't have got knocked over.. Ah well live and learn I guess. ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. Present: 97 ER-5.

There you go.
I asked about the bike sheds but they weren't keen, he said they are hardly big enough for all the pedal bikes never mind a motorbike too. ____________________ Past: Honda x8rs, Honda City fly, Honda Hornet 250, Honda VFR750, Yamaha xt600e.
