As per the title, considering selling the R6 and going for one of these, as will hopefully be leaving my current job soonish, so the bike will be my only transport. Mostly used around town, and also quite frequently with a pillion.

I've always wanted a single, only one if ridden a little is the newest 690 duke which I enjoyed, but I didn't have much of a test...

How are they on the motorway...is it a no go?

And....will I be crying over the lack of power in the step down....it's over half the horsepower of my R6....

Also...will it be a wheelying beast of doom?!

Cheers!

There is a guy on here who i have met a few times called matt, who has one. He may be matt06. He doesnt come on here much these days.

He got it to keep himself out of trouble rather than having a sportsbike, but he is sort of hankering for a sportsbike now.

He's had it a while though, and I think its done him well.

It certainly looks better for spirited rides than most other big singles i have seen. Overtakes need a bit of planning though. Nice big comfy seat, and big sportsbike tyres.

Its good for a bit of distance I think. I like the sound of it.

i got one of these as a courtesy bike,

good round town
alright 2 up (not as good as the fazer) but didn't squat too far with a pillion
i wouldn't want to do distance on it due to the low power/lack of wind protection
have to plan gear changes before corners cause if you are too high you are going nowhere.

oh and is worryingly easy to bounce it off the limiter in first/second (compared to an IL4)

Yep, matt06 from here has one.
Its a nice looking bike, ive sat on it and it seems fairly comfy - very upright with wide bars.
Matts is restricted to 33 bhp but it still seems to go ok, he's also put the akropovic cans on which sound rather sexual Cool Thumbs Up
Best bet is to pm him, he come on eventually Thumbs Up

I see some similarities with my BT1100 style wise - got something of a concept bike look.
I'd expect the build quality is very good - mine is.

It's called a cantilever set up, just works by using different pivot points for the shock mountings.

A mate of Goat-boy had an MT-03 and (after someone scooped him off it) traded it for a Bandit-1200 I think. apparently it was "Ok, but a little dull" and didn't really suit him.

Damn, been thinking alot and still can't decide on anything.

If only I could get a superduke fairly cheap...I think I'm most worried about missing cracking open the throttle and flying off into the distance...

But I'm also thinking the lower power might help me to get better at cornering...as I'll need to be hanging onto the speed I've gained alot more....

Been trying, Yamaha won't let you take one out if you havn't had full bike license for 2 years, which is a bit of a stupid rule...I will be ringing up some other dealers!

My mate had one, I think it's beautiful. Not particularly fast, but more than enough for riding around town. The little screens for them look cool (they go around the clock - search for a pic of one and you'll know what I mean).

It does look cool. I like the idea of a big single, its just the lack of power that puts me off really. Must have reasonable torque, though?

I had to have my downpipes replaced on my Thudercat a few weeks after buying it from a Yammie dealer.

They were quite happy giving me an MT-03 to ride as a courtesy bike, I'd had my full licence for about a month. The MT-03 is great in town and the stock exhaust I had popped and farted in a most childish way Very Happy

Mind you, I got a naked Fazer 600 when the 'cat was back in for tyres and liked that a lot more, but perhaps it was the similar inline-4 I enjoyed. I didn't have the g/f on the MT-03, but the Fazer was very pillion friendly.

I like the look of it, and singles always sound somehow more epic.

Theres nothing else like it being made by any other manufacturer. A streetbike which looks like it should have a twin or four in it.

I dont imagine Yamaha have sold many of these, so I would bet on this being a bit of a classic in years to come. More for the individual nature of the bike more than anything else.

What a load of crap! My local Yamaha dealer let me out on a brand new '08 R6 Demo bike (zero miles, got first go) with nothing more than a signature and a £1500 insurance excess. I've only been riding my Fz6 since April.

Then again, I have bought two bikes from them and all my training. Shifty

Haven't ridden one, but wouldn't mind taking one for a ride. They seem somewhat appealable and a lil different to the usual rows of Yam plastic at my local dealer. Maybe I'll get one as an upgrade to the CG one day. Performance will be more than enough for what I'll use one for, and I like the quirky looks.

Yep, and its still for sale! (in the exchange and mart forums somewhere...)

I have had a quick blast on it and found it to be good fun. I think people enjoy riding them, but wish for a bit more power.

Have spoken to 5 dealerships now, and the only one that has a MT-03 for test ride, is the one which wants 2 years full license....

Bit of a stupid situation for yamaha really....I'm here, ready to get a new bike, but they can't do a simple thing like supply me one to try....

I've been offered an XT-660 to try as the engine is similar, but in the end....it's a different bike.

Looks like I'll go for a private seller, and test ride it there (with full intention of buying if I like it!)

I know these bikes would be totally unsuited to my day to day ride to work, what with it being 20 miles of motorway, but I still keep looking at 'em. Why can't they do a 70/80bhp version with an optional screen Crying or Very sad

Its a thread about my bike! Shocked

Not sure what else to say about the bike.

Defo very good around town and even though you are coming from an R6, the MT does handle pretty damn well. Stock tyres are pretty shit.

I wouldnt want to spend too long on the motorway. I havent got a screen or anything, but the wind protection is pretty bad. Its okay at 60/70, but much more isnt going to be fun.

As for power, for me it was quite weedy. However, I took out the restriction about a month ago and it pulls much more in 1st and 2nd. Spins up very easy in the wet and easy to wheelie just cracking the throttle open. Can get the back end out in corners too, but im not any good at that.

I cant say too much, having only properly ridden about 4 different bikes and the most power I have played with has been about 65bhp. Around town its awesome and its always fun in the country trying to keep up with sportsbikes. Would be cool to see what its like riding with some other guys with the extra power now.

Its funny, because I want to get an R6 sometime soon. I have had this MT for a while now though and its more me getting bored like I would with any bike than a problem with the bike itself.

Probably not said anything that useful, but have any questions I will try and answer them.

Shame you dont ride around with some of us guys around here. Would let you have a blast on it and see what you think.
