I've been looking at quotes for a number of models of bike mainly - zzr, zx6r, thundercat, cbr600 etc.. etc.
The CBR and zx6 are:
3rd party - £180
TPFT - £240
Full Comp - £280
Thundercat / zzr600
3rd party - £100
TPFT - £130 £500 excess
Comp - £280 - £500 excess
The excess on the TPFT and comprehensive policies is around £400.
My question is since i'm not looking at spending much more than £1400 is there any point in the more comprehensive policies?
Interestingly an R1 wasn't too much more than the sports 600s (less than a thunderace), not that i have any intention of ever getting one. An FJ1200 would be more like it. ____________________ Motorcycle headlight bulbs and HIDs

I put this in another ins thread....
This is how i would look at it is.
I have enough free money to buy a new bike in the bank.
>3rd party.
I could afford to buy a new bike if i bin it. But live in a iffy area.
>3rd party fire and theft.
I cant afford to buy a new bike at all....
>Fully comp.
For the sake of £40 on the cbr i would go FC, the benifits far outweigh te small cash saving.
You might also want to see if you can get the excess dropped a bit as well. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

someone mentioned storage and recovery charges and vehicle hire etc..
I had my old NS125 third party only (would take FT as it was not stored in a garage). When I was hit by a takeway driver my insurance ebike organised everything and with 5 days I had a hire bike.
I had TFPF when my kh125 was stolen and never paid any recovery or storage fees.
I think fully comp would be very nice for piece of mind, just not sure yet. Probably have a better idea when I actually purchase a bike. Theft is my main concern.
On the note of breakdown cover I'm with ADAC anyway. ____________________ Motorcycle headlight bulbs and HIDs

That comp price looks pretty steep for the Cat tbh. I got quoted a similar figure for tpft on my Cat and the fc came in at £210 with a £250 excess. Not overly sure on your age and the area you live in, but try BikeTeam for a quote.
Mal
Getting back to your original question, personally I'd go for comp over tpft everytime if I can afford it. ____________________ Current: 2002 FJR1300, 1999 Thundercat, Previous: 1998 XVS650 Dragstar

I've only looked at one broker so far. I was thinking that i'd go back to ebike as had my gpz and all my other bikes insured with them, but they wanted £1152 for a ZX6r fully comp, half that for 3rd party only.
I'm 27 in Norwich with a theft claim £400 and no fault claim or £400 with personal injury of £2200. Had my full license since feb, rode on a provisional before that.
Interestingly, i've ridden on the right hand side more than i have on the left. 5200miles on my tour compared to around 4500miles in the UK
I think when I previously claimed I called e-bike who took all my details then someone else actaully dealt with bike hire and my legal cover kicked in for the personal injury etc.. It was all seemless though.
Definately going to look into the Cat, FJ1200 with a little more zest. ____________________ Motorcycle headlight bulbs and HIDs

Especially with total loss claims from theft they often cancel the insurance, along with all the other factors, you can end up paying out more money in the long term. |
Well like many things in life they don't come without payback.
Ins co's are not charities and are there to make money. But you pay them, so should you need to claim, then you do so.
I would not look at claiming for a bike that was stolen and think, its not worth the claim as i may end up paying more in the next 10 years, compared to what i will get.
If you can't afford to get a new bike by raiding your own piggy bank, what are you going to do.... They have taken you cash, so you use them to do what you paid them for.
Otherwise we all may as well run around uninsured. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |
