As the title....

My Silver '99 R6 just went to a new home.....and it's going to Poland.

Thats the 4th bike between me and my Dad that has gone to Poland this year,

My Dads SV650 went, then my crashed ZX6R went, then my Dad's X11.....now my R6...every single one of our bikes we have sold this year has gone on a truck back to Poland, same story everytime -

1 or 2 guys turn up in a van, look over it, check numbers etc, turn it on, turn it off, hand over cash and chuck it in the back of their van - which usually has bikes in it already.

I asked the guys who just came, and they said they had bought 5 bikes today, and 2 yesterday....

There must be alot of money in this for them to go through all the hassel.....but why?

We've had a new Speed Triple and Daytona 675 go to Latvia and today a guy flew in from Norway for a VN2000. That might not of been so bad except that he had no idea how to get back again! Shocked

There are very few 2nd hand sports bikes in Poland so they come over here to buy them. Ten years ago it was common to ship a container of cheap ex-despatch bikes and 2nd hand parts, now they have money they go for sports bikes.

+1. According to a Polish person who I work with they get taxed really heavily on new vehicles so they must be clamouring for decent second hand bikes. I guess them being part of the EU rids them of paying import duty etc on the bikes too.

It's not just Poland either, a guy I used to work with is doing similar trips to Slovakia.

Sold my GPZ500 on ebay, the guy pretended to be from Birmingham. He turned up after driving for 20+ hours from Poland. Tired to haggle the price, paid in crisp £50 notes and off he went back to Poland after I filled in some forms. Nice guy too apart form trying to haggle.

I did have it 4 months, and did 4000 miles on it, but I had moved house and it wasn't right for the roads. The only decent road near me, every time I went down it got stuck behind some old biddy/tractor/van etc and was getting fed up.

Then I realised I was still fairly slow through the corners, and decided I would probably benefit from a slower bike - giving me more incentive to carry speed.

Also, I take pillion alot, and the R6 isn't brilliant for that, so I bought a MT-03 instead, and it suits all my needs better!

And back on topic......

I was originally thinking - Poland until recently has been fairly poor, its only the past few years they have started to earn money, but not enough to buy new bikes, only second hand ones.

But, due to the country being poor in the past, they don't have many second hand ones around, as no-one could afford them then.....so they get them from over here, most likely because they can speak alittle bit of english?

The guy tried to haggle me on the price using the keypad of his mobile phone Laughing

I reckon they're buying them for the same reasons they buy the cars, as a nice little earner. The relative price of bikes over there is way higher than here.

There were these Polish guys who used to work for us who were pretty handy with the spanners. They would buy up old second hand or knackered cars at auction, do them up, then drive em over to Poland at the weekends and sell them for a nice profit. Then they would fly back to work for Monday. Genius!

A 2000 model sports bike is starting to get old here, but its still shit hot over there.

some will probably get registered over in poland so that whilst they are over here, they can't get speeding tickets!
