 |
|
Hi everyone.
I have recently bought a CG125, i am going for my CBT next week, so was just going to use the CG125 on my land in the time being as it is my first time i have ever been on a 125 bike.
I have had a moped before, but there is a lot more to the 125cc than the 50cc.
What do i need to do exactly to start it up and get it going? At the moment, when i start it, it cuts out after i have kick started it, if i dont give the bike continuous revs, is that normal?
When i start it, do i have to hold onto the breaks or the clutch? and then kick start it, or...?
Sorry for all the newbie questions, like i say, im new to bigger bikes than 50cc, so i really do appreciate any help.
Thanks. |

Get someone to hold the bike and keep it going and you adjust the idle.
I would recommend cleaning out the carb, main jet and a new spark plug but I'm not sure if you would know how to do this.
Definitely a simple issue. |

Thanks guys.
Seems to start better with the choke in the middle - when the choke is in the top position it doesnt idle - it just stops.
Tristan - thank you for your advice - i kept the throttle fairly low but some revs after starting the bike with half the choke (half notch) for 1 minute and the bike then idled fine, i.e. didn't stop.
It was then my changing gear technique which i havent a clue about which made the engine cut off.
So with the choke on half and the revs kept fairly low, but still some revs there, the bike seems to idle fine after a minute or so.
Any hints with gear changing guys lol.
Thanks for your help and patience, i know it is probably testing with a newbie. |

(is this for real?)
You need to learn to feel for the "biting point" ... i.e., the point at which - when you are in first gear - as you increase the throttle, the bike starts to move forward.
If you're having problems with the idle and have to keep the revs up, just remember to let the clutch out carefully ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

once warmed up and running without choke put the bike into first, then slowly let the clutch out till the engine note dips
hold the clutch there
that is the biting point
to move forwards let the clutch out a tiny bit more and it will pull forwards
adding throttle just makes the bike pull away quicker
you could book an hours lesson with a riding school to get the clutch and gears sorted
edit
CBT next week will cover it all "must read OP) ____________________ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree.
Some people start younger, at like 8 with a field bike. Some of us start at 16 with a 50 and some of us start at 30 with DAS.
Doesn't matter, we all have to learn. In the last year, owning a Chinese bike and a Italian bike has taught me a lot about maintenance.
A lot of people come to BCF and get abused for asking for help because they ask in the wrong way I think. You have come on and asked politely So stick around... |

Yes but as we all know CBTs are rubbish.
If I didn't know already I would have no idea on how to use a geared bike from my CBT, it was all on a Baotan scoot that topped out at 25mph.
when it is running:
Clutch in
1st gear (click it down)
clutch out very very gently all the way not just to the biting point
then when you want to change gear, clutch in, drop the throttle and gear lever up into 2nd, clutch out in the time it takes to say bish bash bosh.
When braking remember to pull the clutch in or you'll stall it, and change down whilst braking not when you stop. ____________________ Don't practice it until you get it right, practice it until you don't get it wrong.
