Well - the missus is away for a week visiting friends and generally being a drunken tart, so I thought I'd do what most blokes would do and bring the bike into the front room to work on it in comfort
My question is:
How the fuck do you get rid of half a gallon of petrol that pissed onto the carpet when I lifted the tank off? Soaked up most of the excess, but by god does it stink in the house. I figure my options are:
Move out before the missus gets home.
Light a match and claim off the insurance.
Get a new carpet and tell the missus I was planning to surprise her by redecorating.
Find a miracle cleaner and buy shitloads of air fresheners.
Any other suggestions? |

How about laying down a wood floor instead of the carpet? ____________________ Biking brings together strangers, takes away friends!!!

Tell her you spilt something on the floor and thought petrol would clean it up. Innocent mistake to make. ____________________ Go back to bed - You have no rights - "Streetfighters ~ Mainstream motorcycling's crackwhore sister." |

| Quote: | To remove a petrol stain from your carpet, treat the stain with a mixture of one teaspoon each of vinegar (to remove the odour) and mild dish detergent (to clean the carpet) in a quart of warm water. Let the carpet dry, and if any spot remains, you may need to repeat. If this does not seem to be working, try using dry-cleaning solvent.
|
| Quote: | 1.pour coffee grounds into several individual coffee filters and tie them closed. Place the coffee bags on whatever is harbouring the gas odour.
2.Sprinkle baking soda over the area and let it sit for a few hours. Then whip out your trusty vacuum cleaner to suck up the soda, finishing the job.
3. Leave a liberal amount of citrus peels around for several days (until the peels are completely desiccated). When you remove them, your odour should be gone or weakened substantially.
4. Vinegar. A bowl of white vinegar, left out overnight, can do a surprisingly good job removing gas odour.
5.Charcoal yes BBQ charcoal. There's nothing fancy or particularly aesthetically pleasing about charcoal in a bowl, but when you scatter some bowls of charcoal around, you'll find that it has absorbed the gas odour after about a week.
|
On that basis, maybe the onion trick too - get a load of onions, chop them in half and they might suck up the odor. Kinda works with paint fumes anyway. |

From previous experience i soaked as much up with kitchen roll as possible then used loads of washing detergent (Arial, Daz etc) and hot water and loads of towels to dry it as much as possible.
for a carpet cleaner you can hire them from Homebase for about £15 quid and they are the proper rug doctor professional ones.

Got rid of most of it now, still a bit of an oily stain though and a lighter patch from the brake cleaner, and the fucking smell is diabolical.
Sat here now, with the coal fire fully loaded and every window in the house open.
I'm going rug shopping tomorrow, and I'm being blackmailed by my 8 year old son - he reckons he can get a DS out of me to keep him quiet the cheeky git (gonna get him a pink one) |
