Graphics card problem... !

Ok so ive got a Compaq Presario desktop and its a bit lame now..

Just went out and bought a GeForce 9400 GT graphics card and some more ram.

Ram went in fine, happy days.

Graphics card pushed in fine, etc and the drivers installed fine.

Only problem now is, i dont know how to get it to work...

I have this crappy 6150 in built graphics card on the motherboard which will work, but i dont know how to switch to the new card. I disabled the 6150 in device manager but that didnt work, so im realy stuck basically.

I just got this message last time i tried, idisabled both the new and old graphics card, then enabled the new one and i got this message:

There will probably be an option in the BIOS to switch between onboard graphics or dedicated card.

I presume on a Compaq that you would hammer F10 on start up to get into the BIOS then have a look around. (May not be F10)

yeah disable the onboard card in the bios and make sure the cable is plugged into the new one.

some Pc's know which card a cable is plugged into.

does it how up in device manager or prompt for new drivers?

You shouldn't need to disable the onboard graphics.

Just for clarifications sake, you've got the new card fitted in and powered properly if relevant, your running your monitor through the new card rather than the onboard connector right?

Is it managing to boot up windows and show you a desktop when wired up that way?

If so your 90% there. If you don't get anything on screen at all, not even the bios, then most likely either your missing an external power connector on the graphics card or your desktop is specifically setup to not allow a PCI-E graphics card to be used. (I've seen this on HPs, although it gives a very specific warning on screen and won't even go past the bios when you try).

Agreed.. Even if its a crap res you should get something....

As for the bios... If your using an additional card and not the built in one put it as primary..
