 Posted: 18:52 - 09 Oct 2008 Post subject: 10 sec quarters ....... On a Scootay ? |
 |
|
As I pulled up to the pub last night I saw a scooter outside with a few people gathered round it. As I got closer I noticed a bottle on top of the scooter which looked like a NOS bottle.
It was! We got speaking to the owner and he says it's cost £8000 to build, special forks, brakes etc. The crank was £500, the piston £400 etc etc.
I think he said it was 230cc and the NOS jets were 10BHP.
But he said it runs 10 second quarters. Is that possible ?
My bike is probably 110 rwhp, and according to MCN does 11.2 sec quarters with 134mph terminal. So if this scoot does 10 sec quarters surely the terminal velocity is going to be more than 134mph ?
The reason I ask is that the guy who owned it didn't sound like a bull shitter, and seemed to know what he was on about. He was sort of late 40s early 50s, so not a pedboi.

Unlikely with that bodywork and those tyres according to the OH.
He says no matter what size the engine is with a riding position like that and all the bodywork on there's no chance of less than 12 without at the very least wheelie bars, it will just flip when it gets to about 85-90 if it hasn't already. ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

Na. Most common problem is the crankcases snapping. He has uprated the rear shock and bought pm tunings crankcase support (as seen by his rear wheel (gold) )
He used to be a member of scootershack:
|
thats the exhaust bracket mate, not a crack case support.
i agree with what many have stated, with standerd body work etc it wont do under 10secs, my scoot is a handfull to keep the front down, and so is the guy terro's who owns the scooter shack site, and neither his or my bike is any where near the state of tune this guys runners ment to be.
| stevo as b4 wrote: | Wouldn't this scoot be all over the auto scoot tuning forums, as he has found more cc than has ever been done before with the 180 Drag/Runner motor?
It might have the power, but i can't see 10sec 1/4's from a std scoot body being possible. Most Runner 172/180's with some bolt on tuning stuff tend to lift the front wheel very easily, and the 30bhp+ seriously tuned one's are very hard to keep down. |
it wouldnt be running a 172 kit (or the standard 180 as it has worst compresion then the 172), and all the bolt on's in the world wont make your bike do a 1/4 in less then 10. you need a spriter
( high rear end, low front stops the wheel coming up),stupid amounts of porting, huge carb and inlet, nos if you want, and get rid of all the unnecessary plastics and what ever else is not needed for the bike to ride in a stright line for 11+ seconds ____________________ they say the good die young... i say we just live faster |

I like fast scooters, but anyone who has spent £8000 on a scooter, is going to be tempted to exaggerate how fast it is, especially when talking with someone who is into motorbikes.
I had a 180 2 stroke gilera runner, and if you cracked the throttle open hard, and werent leaning forward, the front would come up.
He's using the same frame and wheelbase, so he is going to struggle getting all the power down and keeping the wheel down initially. So chances are he can only use the nos a bit into the run, if its real.
If he does have a wheelie bar, maybe things are easier, but runners are very easy to flip.
Id quite like to have a go on it though
I miss mine now. ____________________ colin1 is officially faster than god |

Sub 10
Neither on that machine though, is there not a better place to mount the Nox than on the shopping rack? ____________________ Bikers make great organ donors, get 115 on your licence today. |
