2012 just around the corner, the capitalist system is finally unravelling, the climate is in meltdown and ET has anounced he's to make himself known to the masses.
Coincidence?
Fingers crossed we just happened to be born to be alive when the real big sh!t hits the fan. ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |

Christian escatology has been pointing at 2008 for a while.
A guy called Ronald Weinland claims to be the last prophet - we actually the last pair, as his wife is too. He's been predicting away for at least 10 years, and has been tolerably accurate, although his predictions have been somewhat vague. All of it is based on the events in the book of revelations unfolding.
Anyway, the basis of his stuff is that 2008 is where mankind gets past the point of no return - he predicted a financial collapse starting off the collapse of western life, and leading into a massive war, proving once and for all that man is incapable of running the earth.
Then Jesus Christ comes back, takes charge, and everything is great for the next thousand years. We also get to go back to living for hundreds of years, as in the old testament.
He wrote a book with the predictions of all this stuff falling over during 2008 back in 2006, when it wasn't that obvious. So the man may be on to something.
So don't rule out Jesus. I know there's no proof, I know its not trendy, but its just as valid as aliens.
If any of these events are true - the second coming, aliens, mayan calendar, it puts a lot of stuff in perspective. Buying a house, getting a mortgage, saving. All may turn out to be a bit pointless.
Accumulating assets and knowledge that you can actually use makes more sense. A lot of teenagers in Holland are buying boats and tinned food.
Time will tell. Luckily, seeing as I am of the playstation generation and therefore have an attention span measured in minutes, none of the predictions involve waiting too long.
Of course, if it's all not true, the stock market recovers, life carries on as normal, we'll be psychopathically bored out of our skulls by 2015. |

Inspired post Robby
I really, honestly would like something to happen on October 14th. Just to see the look on peoples faces after theyve spouted bullshit like "Its ridiculous!"
For fucks sake, we know its unlikely, it will probably be absolutely nothing at all, and as Robby says, we'll be bored again by 2015. But what if it did. What would your reaction be if they came "in peace"? Or...howabout they came and destroyed us? Made war on our planet? Imagine if the army started a round up of able bodied young men once again? The entire planet unites and goes to war? Epic. Dark, impossible probably, but epic.
But how is it so hard to even entertain the possibility of other life out there, that out of thousands of planets and tons of solar systems, we are the only life form? It just seems fuckin' naive.
However. The imagination is a powerful entity. And mine got carried away. ____________________ "Oh....it looks like Average Joe's is forfeiting the match!" - "Yeah, its a risky strategy but lets see if it pays off for 'em Cotton." |

I would genuinely be getting gear together, singular war hero stylee, belts of ammunition, hundreds of guns.
Im imaging a "Lobby Scene" recreation, from the Matrix.
Alien: "Excahuse me human, do you have any loose change, keys, valuable items etc..."
*Opens coat in slow-mo and looks cooly up at the alien*
Alien: "Holy crutsfaeces!"
*slams the alien with a flat palm, whops out two mp5's and lets rip, all in bullet time*

I'd be wanting the special DVD: "All urban conurbations with one-million or more inhabitants levelled by photon-cannon."
Children and kittens evacuated first of course. ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |

McKenna developed the theory in the mid-1970s after his experiences in the Amazon at La Chorrera led him to closely study the King Wen sequence of the I-Ching. Novelty theory involves ontology, extropy, and eschatology.
The theory proposes that the universe is an engine designed for the production and conservation of novelty. Novelty, in this context, can be thought of as newness, or extropy (a term coined by Max More meaning the opposite of entropy). According to McKenna, when novelty is graphed over time, a fractal waveform known as "timewave zero" or simply the "timewave" results. The graph shows at what time periods, but never at what locations, novelty increases or decreases.
Considered by some to represent a model of history's most important events, the universal algorithm has also been extrapolated to be a model for future events. McKenna admitted to the expectation of a "singularity of novelty", and that he and his colleagues projected many hundreds of years into the future to find when this singularity (runaway "newness" or extropy) could occur. Millenarians give more credence to Novelty theory as a way to predict the future (especially regarding 2012) than McKenna himself. The graph of extropy had many enormous fluctuations over the last 25,000 years, but amazingly, it hit an asymptote at exactly December 21, 2012.[18] In other words, entropy (or habituation) no longer exists after that date. It is impossible to define that state. The technological singularity concept parallels this, only at a date roughly three decades later. |

I read things about 2012 years ago and thought it quite interesting, but it wasnt until a few months ago that I read about Mckenna and the novelty theory that I really began to take notice.
Mckenna apparently developed his theory after experimenting with DMT (Dimethyltryptamine - most powerful hallucinogen known to man), and after reading a book by a medical doctor detailing his work with psychedelics and patients and their experiences (the book is called The Spirit Molecule by Dr. Rick Straussman) it really got me thinking.
Another interesting point is that Mckenna developed this theory and gave an approximate date several years before the discovery of the Mayan calendar system and at what date it was calculated to end, and I think this lends a lot of weight towards its credibility. Seriously interesting stuff, and im quietly hoping that 2012 doesnt turn out to be a duff like many so called predicted events.

I bet after a thousand-odd years of continuous empire the extant Romans never thought the show was about to come to an end. Same mind-set going on here. All we've got that's different is technology, and the way it's being used it's not going to be of any use saving this particular civilisation. If anything it'll hasten the end.
Get used to the idea people, we've run out of everything and there are too many people about to fight for what's left. This show is nearly over.
