A question on parking.

if you park you bike on a pavement, as you want to chain it to a lampost, can you put a cover over it to prevent youself from getting a ticket, or will the wanker take it off and look at the registration plate

If you do park your bike on the pavement, technically you could be causing an obstruction to pedestrians.

If a pedestrian walked into it or tripped over it the owner of the bike would be liable for causing an accident. Then the pedestrian could file an insurance claim for damages.

It is always better to park legally even if you do have to pay. I got told this off a traffic warden when I did it once.

In London, parking attendants are allowed to remove anything obscuring the licence plate, e.g., a plastic bag or a bike cover.

Also, if you don't display a tax disc, they can remove your bike, and probably will, too, if it's parked on the pavement.

On a related note, what do you do in pay&display car parks, where there are no dedicated bike bays, and no notices indicating an exemption for bikes?

I live south east london and when I do need to park on the pavement i slip a carried bag over the plate an flip the tax disc around.

Never had any issues with this. As far as I know the attendants aren't allowed to touch your bike what so ever.

But after reading this thread i'm worried that i've just been lucky so far.

OK so maybe it isn't a NEED to park on the pavemnet, but it's so much easier to park across the road from, or outside, a shop you're only going to be 2 seconds in.
