None of my bikes have had the luxury of a garage,
They all live outside and i never wash them,
Supposedly ACF50 applied liberally after a good clean will see you through winter.
I use an oxford stormex cover or something similar, I try to put it on when the bikes dry, If i come back from a ride and its still raining, ill leave it out there, hope for a gap in the rain rush out with a rag and the cover, dry it as best as possible and hope for the best....
So many people advocate doing their own spannering and maintenence/cleaning they really dont know the pain of living on a second floor flat where the bike has no access to water/ light or somewhere to sit and work on it...
One day i will live in a home with a garage... ____________________ [Current Bikes - GSXR-750 K5 & C90-97 ] [Previous Bikes: Runner 125, YBR 125, GS500, Bandit 600, Hornet 600, ZX6R-99, C90-99, R1-99, XT600E-04, GSXR-750 K4, CRF250L '16] |

FS365 apply after each ride,
My NTV is caked in crud as it sticks to dirt and forms a protective layer around it so goes the blurb. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Thanks for all this
I think a cover is definitely on my list when i've got a bit of money to spend one one.
I have heard the name FS365 before, I assume since your recommending it, it has worked for you. What exactly is this stuff?
And what is ACF50? |

Since extreme3d has now retired from this forum , looks like I'm going to have to explain it....
ACF50 is Aircraft formula 50 or something , it was supposed to be used on aircraft on carriers, which is a tad moot since aircraft are made from aluminium and titanium. ACF50 doesn't neutralise salt though. I have little faith in it since Jim tested it out and it didn't work very well , and the fact that you apply it infrequently so even though its resistant to being washed off it does wash off and what protects your bike nothing. its also £15-£20 a can.
FS365 is a scottoiler type spray which you apply onto your hot bike (it sizzles but it used water as flux) after each ride, this neutralises the salt , and sort of reacts with crud and thus if it doesn't rain you get a protective layer of crud covering your entire bike...you wash the crud layer off at the end of the week.
It washes off though come the rain but then again you just reapply it, you can go superduper with it like on my NTV where I never wash it and thus although the surface looks terribly dirty the under neath metal is forever encased in a layer of crud...
My NTV water pump guard is completely surrounded by a thin layer of crud , you can wash it off (needs scrubbing) and it appears completely uncoroded underneath..
its £5 per a 500ml spray bottle of £30 for 4 or 5 litres, since you a 500ml bottle will last 2-3 months. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. That is all.
We've been applying it to all of our new bikes at work for about 18 months now and corrosion warranty claims have dropped to 0.
It is expensive but you don't need much and it doesn't wash off so a can lasts ages. ____________________ BCF: Be yourself, just don't be an arse. |

Thanks for the detailed info Itchy
FS365 sounds like the stuff but i'll have to try both before passing judgement on them, ACF50 sounds intriguing too
Although I guess the best way to stop my bike getting corroded is to find somewhere inside to put it |
