I did my cbt about 2½ weeks ago and the instructors told me that you can't fail the cbt. It's not a test, it's training.
They said that if anyone wasn't good enough to get their certificate on the day then they come back and do some more, at no extra cost.
Don't know if it's different around the country mind you, but that's what my instructors told me. |

Yeah, same here tricky.. Hmmm you really should complain or demand a refeund/another cbt, as like was mentioned you CANT fail, its immpossible, they should give you extra tuition etc if you are really struggling. Hearing this makes me angry as I only had my CBT about a month ago and know what its like to have supurb instructors |

I would seriously consider reporting this to the DSA if I were you, they are already aware of the situation regarding bad instructors/training schools, the more people that complain the better, send an email to:-
[email protected] detailing the situation and why you're not happy ____________________ Something dark reddish with two wheels and cagiva written on the side

You can't really fail as such as there is no marking or totting up of points but you are required to be at a safe standard before the instructor will let you on the road and then sign you off. I think that if someone is nowhere near the required minimum safe standard that they should have further training before being let loose on their own, for eveyone's safety not just their own.
With regard the fact they sent you home at lunchtime, are you sure you have understood why, did you ask ??
Normally the afternoon is spent out on the roads. I'd suggest that the instructor didn't feel that you were upto the required standard therefore felt you needed another morning offroad to get you upto speed before doing the afternoon on the road? For the sake of the other students and your own safety he probably did the right thing.
Before you kick off, ring the training school, or go back and discuss it sensibly with them. make sure you fully understand the why's and where fors before you rush in and get egg on your face.
I'm not saying they are in the right, but there is always two sides to every story, but they should have explained it better as i think you've mis-understood.
in the meantime get practising on an empty carpark on a geared bike, you'll soon crack it

They should have had you come back for another day - making you pay again after just a mornings' tuition is shite. I'd never ridden a bike in my life when I took my CBT, and my mate was slightly better than I was - seemed to pick it up easier, but rather than give him a certificate and not me, they had us both come back next day, polish up a bit, and gave us both the CBT at the same time.
Sounds like a crap riding school - telling a complete newcomer they aren't good enough after a mornings' tuition is stating the the obvious. Training you to a certain standard THEN assessing you is what you paid for, not a morning "Here's a bike get on with it" then "You're crap, leave your £50 on the table on your way out and come back for some more. Oh, and if you're still crap you'd better have another fifty ready."
Maybe that's not how it was, but that's the initial impression I got from your post.
If you get no joy, or they give you crap, just name/shame 'em on places like here, but state why they're rubbish, or you feel dissatisfied, rather than simply stating they suck. Then go somewhere else - I'm sure you can get recommendations from people on here.
Good luck,
Paul |

I too think the Training school is at fault here. You should be treated equally as even pupils that have had riding experience don't always know the right/correct method of bike control, for road use. It would be a big cop out too if the CBT centre lets you do your training on a twist and go, if your planning on riding a geared bike once you have passed.
The only thing i would say: is that learning how to ride a geared bike safely and under good control, as well as learning all the practical elements of the CBT, and highway code is not something that is within everyones capability, all in one go and all on the same day even. Everyone learns new skills at different speeds, and therefore it's un-realistic to expect everyone to reach CBT standard from never having ridden a motorcycle in a single day.
What would really have helped you mate or be a good thing to do now, is to see if you can get someone to spend some time teaching you the basics of how to drive a motorcycle, in an off the road enviroment, before you take the CBT or go back for extra training. This would obviously mean finding someone who would let you use their bike to practice on and learn basic starting, stopping, gear changing, and braking, before actually doing the CBT, and the road skills training that it will involve. |
