 |
|
Right.
I am now probably buying my dad's C reg FZ750 from him come february.
But I want to make it into a Streetfighter . Not the gay kind of streetfighter that has no fairings and an alien headlight and that's it, I mean the whole shabang. Custom tail unit and subframe, cut down loom, wide bars, running gear from a better bike, etc etc etc.
I also want to change the swingarm, as atm the back tyre is a 130, which is the same as my GPR50
So, anyone know how much hassle this is, which bike to use as a donor, etc.
Any help appreciated

Yeah I'm thinking more along the lines of getting one that fits relatively well anyways and then maybe bracing it or something.
Just thought, the FZR Genesis' have big fat rear tyres, could chop one of those about... ____________________ Don't practice it until you get it right, practice it until you don't get it wrong.

It might be the 600R wheel that fits actually or I may just be talking bollocks altogether |

it's unlikely (but not impossible) that you'll find a s/arm that will drop straight in without a certain amount of messing about
it might be worth you joining DisturbingThePeace as that's a varied make/models fighter site and there may be someone there who has swapped swingarms/wheels/tyres on your model bike ...
some of the things to consider when fitting wider tyres/wheels will be chain clearance on the tyre and then sprocket alignment, you may need an "offset" gearbox sprocket but that can possibly lead to further problems (will the chain clear the inside of the frame rails or will you have to carve the frame ? )..
i've just fitted a GSXR1100 engine into an old Z750ltd chassis, i then fitted a modified Slabby 750 s/arm into the frame (had to ease the pivot points in the frame by 2.5 -3mm each side), i then used a Z1000ltd rear wheel but i then found the sprockets don't line up (expected) so i've had to turn a spacer for the rear sprocket carrier to offset the rear sprocket , plus i had to make spacers to centralise the wheel itself in the wider s/arm...
none of this has been overly awkward (and minimal expense) for me as i have access to the required machinery/tools, how are you fixed in this way ?
some s/arms are harder to fit than others depending on what you wish to use
a couple of pictures of the things i've done ...
milled up new mounts for the suspension after chopping off the original suspension (had to pay for the welding)

If your going the "whole shabang" you will be needing a single sider. If your gonna put the effort into making a different swingarm fit, you might as well make it look as good as possible. VFR/916 etc.
Make sure you have plenty of time available, or like me you'll end up stripping it down, then it'll sit there for a year before you flog it.
Hope to see a thread in Show and Tell soon ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

Well, I suppose that's the thing with streetfighters innit ? They're all down to personal opinion.
Personally, I think single siders look good, but I doubt there's any "whole shebang" streetfighters out there where 100% of people who look at think "Yeah, that's cool". There's always some who'll say "That is pants".
Good luck with it anyway ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

I can all fabrication and machining done free of charge on demand, one of the reasons I'm doing this.
Yes, I am just being a tart
No, I don't want a single sider, just personal choice.
The reason I thought of an FZR swingarm is that the FZ is basically the same thing in alot of ways, was hoping I might be able to just bang one in, or at least with minimal effort, but if it looks like it's gonna be an effort anyways then I'll just get something off a newer bike.
I was talking about the FZR1000 that has a fatter back tyre.
Cheers guys, there'll be a topic in show and tell at some point, but not for a little while yet. ____________________ Don't practice it until you get it right, practice it until you don't get it wrong.

Nice one, cheers mate, I've been trying to find exactly that out for a while.
Although have now bought a Ninja G2 Swingarm and rear wheel as I have two people who have offered to get it on for free. ____________________ Don't practice it until you get it right, practice it until you don't get it wrong.
