Hi all,

My SV650 curvey (W) is playing up and i'm looking for a little help.

Had an off at xmas so the bike stood still for a couple of months. Got back on and thought it just needed a good out. However the problem still exists - as the sv is my commuter and I do about 40 miles a day.

Basically to keep the bike running I need to keep the choke on - when I close the choke at revs drop below 2k it cuts out. Twice when on the M1 at 70 mph I have felt the bike splutter and a load of white smoke shot out (don't know if it's connected).

Thanks in advance.

John

Sounds like something in the carbs is damaged. Might be a float that is stuck.

Might be worth taking the tank off and checking the air box, thats if its under the tank... No idea on a Sv.

Having to run with the choke on, would indicate weak running. But could also be a problem with the fuel supply to the carbs.

check the tank vent for blockages

as for the white smoke = oil burining (although it can be blue mostly)

or a coolant loss ie headgasket.

check your oil level and fuel tank and go from there

check the coolant is still visible in the expansion bottle as well

Many thanks for the pointers - I'll take a good look over the weekend.
