mini buffalo

and just to how you how small this wee smokey beast is
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/DSCF1840Small.jpg

(excuse the moustache, its MOvember and all my work mates are growing mo's)

https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/DSCF1841Small.jpg

https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/DSCF1842Small.jpg

she's a 1975 60cc 2 stroke, with 1323 miles on the clock,
she has been sitting under a house since 1977,
and needs some work, she has frozen solid,
i was hoping it was a cold seize on the top end, but unfortuanatly its the bottom end Sad

i have stripped the engine down to the crank cases,
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/DSCF1856Small.jpg
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/DSCF1857Small.jpg

https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/DSCF1858Small.jpg

but will have to drop the bottom end off, for the bike shop to split the cases for me... (i just dont have the tools to do it myself)
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/DSCF1851Small.jpg

well thats the progress so far,

im not sure what the bike is, the prevous owner seemed to think it was based on a old step through yamaha engine (apparntly the Taiwanese bought the tooling from yamaha, and started building there own bikes)

if you can think of any engine that is similar then let me know..
the carb is inside the right hand side cover..
very weird,
it also looks like you have to premix yourself,
fuck knows the mixture

It probably has a discvalve rather than reed valves, that is why the carb is underneath the crankcase.

I used a 32:1 mixture in my Raleigh Runabout. With modern day oils 32:1 should be fine, back in the days it was first made though it would have probably been run on something closer to 20:1.

yeah it is a rotary disc valve system.
ive never come across that before, i ve always only dealt with reed valve smokeys. Mr. Green

ok progress today is that i managed to split the cases...
very easily infact, another first time for me was that there was a gasket between the crankcases,
that made the job very easy indeed,
here is the evillness that is my bottom end Crying or Very sad
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/DSCF1859Small.jpg
so crank cases split i have another problem, there is a little pin that is on the right hand of the crank that is there to spin the gear that spins the disc valve, which means i can't get the crank past the damn bearing...
am i right in thinking that the bearing should move out wards and not into the bottom end??
it has a circlip in place which makes me think that
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/DSCF1854Small.jpg

well thats it for today

The ignition cover to me reminded me of a Kawasaki one (some of the old air cooled singles, like the KH100). That is it disk valve makes me also think Kawasaki. A guess would be an early KX60 engine. The fins on the head look similar to this mid 1980s one.

yeah i was thinking kawasaki as well,
i am using a ga1 manual a 90cc bike from the early 70's
that seems kinda similar
https://www.taylorcompton.com/sitebuilder/images/kawasaki90-452x298.jpg
except the ga1 uses a autolube/oil pump, where the buffalo must run premix,
also the air filter system is different,
apart from that for all intensive purposes it seems very similar.

any clue on how i would remove the dowl pin from the crank??

Hi

I would expect the bearing to stay on the crank when you remove it from the cases. Once out you might find you have clearance to get at the pin.

All the best

Keith

well i managed to get that pesky pin free... very easily infact,
good old side cutters did the trick no bother,
bearing stayed in the case and the crank slid through,
hammered the bearing free,
and bobs ya uncle,
and here is the culpret... 32years with out being started and this is what you get

https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/DSCF1870Small.jpg
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/DSCF1871Small.jpg

i did some measuring and found that the bore is 42mm and the stroke is 43,
so that makes this bad boy a staggering 59.57cc wooo hoo.
can you feel it???

a bridgestone chibi, as in the guys who make tyres,
up until 1975 they also made bikes,
and some quite cool ones at that.

heres the chibihttps://www.bikerenews.com/Stories/Article_20080806_001/MVC-044S.JPG

i rode it down the road in bare feet and no helmet and then proceeded to get pulled over by the police
lol, he let me off of course,
but bloody typical, never see cops at all, and then the one time you decide to be a bit sneaky, there they bloody are,

the wee bike seems to run quite hot, (compared to my other air cooled 2 stroke) so ill pull the head in the morning and inspect the bore and make sure every thing is getting lubed properly,
may be im running a bit lean, so ill pull the carb again and see if there is some gunk in there,

its strange to ride, one of the bars is bent, which is a shite, ill never find them here in nz
other than that she seems to go through all 4 gears ok

Sounds good.

You could always get some handlebars made up out of steel tubing and then get them chromed.

The bars were bent on my dads monkey bike, we took all of the handlebar gear off and bent it back by sliding a long scaffolding bar on it and giving it some leverage.

Looks pretty good! get restoring now Very Happy
