My front wheel keeps sticking, and now it's squealing. I have copperease and a tool kit.

But how do I get the caliper free, remove the pads, and clean the inner workings? A picture guide would be appreciated.

Thanks.

What bike is it? ,

In that depending on how many calipers and how many pistons you have this can be easy or hard depending on the tools you have

EDIT

Since I assume by your sig you are a 125er, and almost all 125s have a twin pot single front caliper with single side pistons..

Undo the pin plug (if there is one on Hondas there usually is) , which should need heat and a big flat screw driver, then you need usually an allen key to undo the pad pin , undo it slightly now you do this now as its stuck to the fork leg as you can get more leverage on it..

Now undo the caliper bolts holding the caliper to the fork leg...

you should be able to rotate it off (it in the direction of the wheel wheel), now take a photo of the guts of the caliper , you might have some shim springs or pad springs or anti squeel shims.

Now undo the pad pin all the way and extract it , the pads and springs ought to fall out. onto the floor good thing you took a photo right? ...

Now you'll see into the caliper the pistons are almost always hollow , guess how deep it is, and get yourself a block of wood and stick it where the pads used to be...

Undo the top cover of the master cylinder first

Now pump the brake a bit watching the fluid and the pistons, if the fluid gets low top it up to prevent air getting into the system...

now when you get to the half way mark of your estimate above stop (for safety put in something like a block of wood where the pads used to be) , and clean up the piston...

When cleaning look out for burrs or tangs on the piston these can tear the seals if you have them on the edges you can file them off carefully , on the surface its easier to replace the piston £20 a pop for a 600cc bike (cept ther are 8 of them!) , push them back in just enough to get your pads back in and rebuild the caliper as per your photo, stick a tiny bit of copper grease or if you are an old man some red rubber grease on the back of the pads before they go against the pistons , and put the pin back in..

You might have to remove some of the brake fluid from the top as when you push them in a bit the fliud is forced out there.

put it back together and its done...

IF you mess this up and end up popping a piston so that there is fluid coming out of the piston hole, you need some more brake fluid and you'll need to bleed the brakes after pushing the piston back in...

30 minute job , 90 minutes on a 8 pot caliper thingie on ZX6Rs with their 6 pots per caliper it takes forever even with the piston removal tool.

That's the caliper in question.

This might seem like a daft question, but how do I get the pads out of the caliper - I can see the clips, but do I bend these, yank at these, pull these out? And I'm assuming the pistons won't jus t fall out when the pad comes out?

thanks for your help here.

Pull the clips out and then pull the pin out, (your supposed to replace the clips but if your carefull you won't need to) the pads should then come out. Pump the brake lever to move the piston out, you dont want to move it out too far other wise you will have to bleed the system. If you pump it till you see the shiney part of the piston. Now I use brake cleaner from an aerosol. Spray loads on, the stuff is brilliant it evaporates and should just melt most of the crap off the piston use a tooth brush to get any stubbon muck off. Once it's alll clean force the piston back, you should be able to do it buy hand if not use a clamp then reassumeble putting cooper slip on the back of the pads.
